Forums - Sony - if PS3 Wand and DS3 are both used in games...

I was wondering what your guys thoughts would be on if a game decided to use both the Wand, Gem whatever, for certain parts of a game/gameplay, and then would use the DS3 for other parts of the game. Would the switching annoy you or would you be open to the idea if it meant optimizing the experience of certain portions of a game? Any idea of games that could possibly benefit from this dual controller scheme? Maybe like in Uncharted 2 for the machine gun portion, if you could use the wand as a rail gun shooter. That's probably not the best example but you get what I mean.

Around the Network

Well, there's already the Resident Evil 5: Alternate Edition which will have the player use their left hand to control half of the controller while the other hand uses the wand essentially mimicking the wii-mote and nunchuck.

As for what you were saying, it'd have to depend on the game. I'd rather not have the wand controls implemented into a game for the heck of it. In this way, I think your example with Uncharted 2 would be pointless. Maybe useful for that short time, but I'd rather see games developed with the hardware in mind and not feel like a pointless toss in or plain poor implementation like we've seen with the Sixaxis/Dualshock 3 motion controls in many games.

games will probably use the wand the D3 in any of the following way
1. wand only - for games like puzzle games or something
2. d3 only- need you ask?
3. ds3 + wand - kinda like re4 wii etc

i hope developers don't make a game use ds3 in some parts then the wand in other parts. it will annoy the shit out of me.

Well yeah. Uncharted 2 came out in what will be almost a year before the Wand is introduced so obviously in that context it would not be designed with the hardware in mind. I was just using it as an example. Preferably the Wand would hold a more prominent role in a game that utilizes both.

As for RE5, that sounds really awkward holding the DS3 with one hand. Why would they do that?

to emulate the wiimote nunchuck combo? though the ds3 may be a tad bit heavy. maybe sony will once again release the sixaxis for those who dont want a heavy ds3? or howabout a ds3 that can be split in half?  so when the game calls for a stick and  wand combo, players just have to disconnect the left side? though i have no idea how they would do that..
