I'm not assuming it.  It's through Nintendo's own numbers they had released a while ago.  A big majority of those Wii owners did own PS2s.

Besides if they weren't at Wii... where did these PS2 consumers go?   People generally adopt the same time they usually do generation to generation.

Do you have a link?  The only real data I can find on this is US centric (70% of Wii owning households also owned a PS2), and from Nielsen.

Sadly can't find it.  Something i saw refrenced in another post.

Still, seems like a similar ratio would apply if not higher... just based on the fact there are less potential consumers in Japan.

A population of 130,000,000 people for 9 million consoles.

That's what.  1 Wii for ever 14.4 people?  Counting each person as a "household"?

In reality There are around 49 million households in Japan.  http://www.stat.go.jp/english/data/handbook/c02cont.htm

So we're talking  1 Wii for every 5.44 households... and at this point... 1 PS2 for every 4.08 households.

PS2 sold 23 million total, or  1 for almost every 2 housholds.

There isn't much of a "blue" ocean out there in Japan. (Granted some of these were slim rebuys and having to rebuy broken PS2s...)

Or not in the terms of "new buyers".   Hence why the REAL Blue Ocean strategy is to maximize the usage of the systems.

I don't think it has anything to do with it be Nintendo's strategy but more a way to save face by claiming several ppls per household are using the console ( from a business point of view getting into more households makes more sense..)

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Wii - graphics aren't the point, it is audience. Many Xbox fans are Xenophobic American patriotic republicans who bash Japanese RPGs. PS3's userbase is low.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

No matter how you slice it, FF is a series that caters to people who like graphics and plot. So SquareEnix was practically forced to put FFXIII on the HD consoles because most of their fans were expecting the graphics to be near the best of this generation. If it was on the Wii, many fans would have skipped the game in protest or just bought FFXIV instead, purely based on the graphics. It sounds bad when you say it, but deep down many people even here know that a large part of what you've come to expect from the series is a vast upgrade in visuals and that 'wow' factor from each title. And you would have been protesting from day 1 the game if it was announced for Wii because you would have felt they couldn't deliver that.

That said, obviously other series can go to Wii and do just fine. The most obvious example is FF sister Series Dragon Quest, which is already doing this. But that game has never made graphics a primary focus.

the way the things are now, i have to say "maybe"

Niche games don't sell on the Wii, but seeing as FF is a blockbuster game with worldwide fanbase, it can sell very well on the Wii.

What if FF never was announced for the PS3? or 360? would this affect the install base of the HD systems? would it be an exclusive to the Wii or would it end with a "betrayal announcement" because it will be ported to another system?? kinda hard to guess because this generation is already set in stone now.

How do I keep missing these 100+ post threads?

What woyuld happen if it sold almost the same as each other. If memeory serves me correct. Resident Evil 4:wii edtion sold the most out of all the versions it has. I think it has a chance
A big budget title like this is what wii fans have been craving for and its excluesive.
So it does have a chance

You shouldn't speak in absolutes.  You'll just be proven wrong absolutely.

What if the next Nintendo system comes out and repeats the Wiis success or even surpasses it.  You have the state set up for the next PS2.
