Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario Galaxy - on track for "2nd Best Game Ever"

Well, some game scores have bothered me. Bioshock for example was scored incredibly high, but it was really a remake of System Shock 2 with better graphics/artwork but worse gameplay. My friend and I rented Call of Duty 4, but the lack of a cover system and the stupidly simplistic gameplay made us return it the next day. Not to mention we sat down and beat the campaign in 4 hours (5-6 my ass). For some reason that game is getting 9.5+ scores just for looking great.

Ratchet got incredible scores considering it was missing many features from the last R&C game such as online co-op and battles. Plus, it was 5 hours shorter, and much much easier. Super Paper Mario also seemed really over-rated. Not to mention any serious reviewer shouldn't be giving out more than a couple perfect 10s a year at the most. However, Orange Box, Halo 3, Metroid Prime 3, and hopefully Super Mario Galaxy all deserve great scores.

What is Mario galaxy? Its a remake of super mario 64 with better graphics/ artwork and the gameplay is superior. Bioshock is the exact same as Super mario galaxy but it deserves higher because you like it? Also bioshock ive heard from alot of system shock two fans has alot better gameplay. COD rocks, and im into my 5th hour and i havent beat it. You understand your opinion is NOT fact.

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Mario Galaxy is most definitely not a remake of Mario 64. Thats like saying all Zelda games are remakes of each other because you collect weapons which help you get items which help you save a princess. COD may rock, but I think that game is more of a remake of the first three COD's. =P  Although I understand your point that if Bioshock is a remake, so is SMG.  Honestly, it doesn't matter.  Both are great games.

Might want to rethink that one.  Plus, you forgot that Galaxy makes this little thing called gravity really important and that instantly disqualifies it as a remake.

OK, let me draw an analogy to help illustrate the difference as I see it between Bioshock/other sequels and Mario Galaxy as a sequel:

System Shock/Bioshock and others are like Batman/Batman Returns. Great movies, and certainly not clones of one another, but pretty similar overall. (Actually, some people say that the gameplay of Bioshock IS pretty much a "steampunk" clone of SS2, but I wouldn't know.)

Mario Galaxy is like Alien/Aliens. Great movies, very different from each other despite the strong similarities inherent in being part of the same continuum.

And then you have game sequels that are like Saw/II/III/IV. Pretty much the same thing again and again. Obviously it's good enough to keep people coming back for more but no points for originality.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

By the way, OoT has a 99 of Metacritic. That is still far off from 97.3 it is at now. I hope it reaches the top though!

First of all Lost Tears of Kain, if you haven't played both games, you don't want to get into this discussion with me. Bioshock only has better gameplay than System Shock 2 if you were too stupid to figure out how to use the awesome RPG elements of System Shock 2.

My problem with Bioshock is that reviews recognized it as original. No reviews are claiming Super Mario Galaxy is original, because it's not. It's just a re-imagining of Mario. Bioshock on the other hand got credit for numerous innovations which were literally just copy-pasted from its predecessor. If the reviews had said "System Shock 2 was great and so is this because it's like SS2" then I wouldn't be complaining about it.

Also, I never said my opinion was fact. I specifically said some review scores bothered ME. I didn't say no one had a right to like these games or disagree with my opinions on them.

I first off never dissed maro galaxy, only defended bioshock and the wii fans go wild, this is unbelievable.

You understand that all the games have perks added to them that change the gameplay, it still is a sequal, you collect stars, hit people people and jump on them to kill them, still the same enemie, but cause its got gravity its not a remake. No matter what i say its still a fantastic game and feels great but its still in a huge way its mario 64 with few added perks

You really dont have to be an asswhole about it, i defended bioshock without swearing at you, only stating your opinion is NOT fact. You confirm this by your assanine first comment. Even if i HAD played it, which i havent, that doesnt mean just cause you see System shock 2 as better, doesnt mean IT IS. Ive heard people say they like the combat in bioshock more, its opinon, not just your own.

You say its just like its predessor and is getting claimed for innovation. I hear the same thing for galaxy. Its supposedly been so long since a platformer that it feels so danm new, therefor it is new and will get rated higher. Even if they had mentioned it as SS 2 successor, doesnt mean it would of changed its score.

Again, you leave no compensation for other peoples opinions, calling them stupid if they dont agree with you. Thats making your opinion FACT. That and you said COD was 5-6 hours my ass. Ive exceeded that, so yes they were right, just because you did it doesnt mean its not true.

Calm it lost, Naz isnt being an asshole and wii fans arent going wild, they are replying to your post =\

People on the internet will disagree with you, you'll have to learn to live with it. Naz is allowed his opinion and you basically ended up jumping down his throat because you didn't agree with it.

Personally I never played (or was interested in) Bioshock so I can't comment on it but saying that SMG is SM64 with added perks is just plain out wrong.
From everything I have seen about SMG it completely changes just about EVERYTHING, the gravity, the worlds, the gameplay, its all different. Basically the only similarities that I have seen are that they both involve the Mario characters and that they are both platformers, everything else seems to have been heavily changed up.
SM64DS is what SM64 with perks is.

Bioshock is to System Shock 2 as Super Mario 64 is to Super Mario 64 DS.

Super Mario Galaxy is to Super Mario 64 as Super Mario World is to Super Mario Bros.

Really Lost, what the hell do you expect in a sequel.

For it to change absolutely everything?
