I get tired with the "but gameplay > other things" defences. Is no reason why a game cannot have good gameplay as well as great other things.

Yes there is, you just don't CARE about the reason, so you choose to ignore it.

The Wii doesn't have HD graphics because Nintendo wanted to keep the entry price to owning their new console low, from launch.

The games don't havve amazing visuals because the console doesn't support them.

The Wii has shitty voice chat because it has to be safe for children, with some available opinion for inattentive parents to listen in.

The Wii has friend codes to prevent children from interacting with strangers against their parents permission.

The Wii has casual games because it is owned by a ton of casual gamers who like them, and children who would rather play a Spongebob game than Final Fantasy XIII. The core gamers and Nintendo faithful are in the minority.

That said, it is a completely ignorant myth that "the Wii has no good games."

A lot of those games are exclusive. The Wii is a damn fine next generation console, and it has a shitload of great games..

The thing is, we're internet fanboys. We discuss a plethora of games that we will never, nor ever have played, all day, and attempt to compare libraries of consoles to each other in an attempt to ascertain superiority.

The Wii is an easier target, because the nerd elite(entheusiast press, aka entheuastic fans who posted enough on the message forum to learn how to write a decent paper) tend to side with the consoles they play all the time, which are the consoles that let them take advantage of their expensive HDTVs and modern technology.

Truth is, neither HD console is very original, and the only reason they have anything on the Wii, is their graphics, and 3rd party support, which in reality, Nintendo couldn't do anything about to begin with. The HD twins are copies. They are very close too identical graphically, and thus,, ,can be ported to and fro easily. The Wii isn't. It's different, and thus, can't be ported to easily, and it often left out of the loop. That's the price you pay for being different, but not having as good of a library as the Xbox 360 dooesn't mean there are no good games. That's bull. Not that you implied that Kyliedog, but just in case you were thinking it.

WIN!

the problem I have isn't there attacking nintendo as such but the lack of balance. Look at dynamic slash, thats a story focused, mature new IP that recently got a new trailer, new info and nintendo has announced that they are suporting it with a demo. and yet there is no coverage of that on ign. Instead we have 2 editorials and a podcast focusing on nintendo's laziness. We get the point now, you dont need to repeat yourself.

and how come its only nintendo? lets look at microsoft. half their lineup was halo. one was an unbalanced spin off RTS that was dumbed down for console gamers and the other an expansion pack retailed at full price. The other half included ninja blade, a title nowhere near the quality we've come to expect from microsoft and forza 3. Which is a step back for the genre since you can only have 2 player splitscreen whilst mario kart managed 4 player splitscreen and 8 AI in the same race.

now should I do a editorial like that? no, cos like the ign ones its a completely unbalanced piece.

I completely agree with Gnizmo on this subject. Feel free to dislike the Wii and Nintendo games all you like, but don't mistake what they are doing for lazyness simply because they cater to values that differ from yours. Instead, try to understand why they are successful despite your dislike. That way you might learn something.

Your average internet gamer wouldn't know what to do with him/herself if they didn't make the assumption that everyone has the same lifestyle as them, that everyone wants the same things as them, and that they all just happen to have a 50inch plasma hanging off the wall...

im not going to argue with the OP because like other 10 milion people out there i am blinded by Mario.

I'm not blinded, I was thinking no online in nsmbwii was dissapointing and the spinoffs are awful, but ign crossed the line now

IGN can suck eggs!!  They have no ideal what they are talking about and when it come to game opinions, they are clearly in favor for the non selling HD games systems.  Nintendo dosent play it safe. Nintendo plays it "MAINTAIN" with and added belief of "More Growth Potential" For the past 10 years Nintendo astablished franchise titles made, published, and sold buy Nintendo, have been the top selling games "EVER!!!" So it wouldnt make since to change the program on those wonderful selling franchises.  Unlike like Sony or Microsoft who plays it "Safe" buy "Lets copy what the Company in the lead is doing."  or "let do exactley what the Leading company is doing"  hince like Mario, Donkey kong, Metroid, Smash Bro, Pokemon, etc... established franchises "They just added a "new" number behind a Game they put out already and lets add waggle too "THATS NOT TRYING, THATS BEING LAZY!!!  SONY has no title this gen that barely reach the 2-3 million mark let alone anything over 5  million!!     I already foresaw that Fan boys just to be different would of picked Sonys' Infamous or the next chapter of Uncharted/with new number as "Game of the year" Knowing fully well that Xbox 360 number one game of the year would  be "Another "F*ucking" first person shooter.   (A Great FPS) but one would think the same top selling shooter would be number one on both HD systems but hey,  we "Sony fan boys" got to be different.  "IGN can suck eggs!!!"   Heres  a story,  Nintendo puts out a system with a new controll method interface just to appease the loyal Nintendo fans (lets say about 22 million) who like playing/buying everything Nintendo and it works its successul.  Then BAMM!!!  BOOM!! all of a sudden Mothers and Uncles, older sisters' "Hell', even Grand ma is buying Nintendos' new machine.  For some strange reason there seems to be a "BIGGER" user base than the users who the system was originally made for [lets see (65 million - 22 million = {43} million) possibly new expanded audiance or what Nintendo believes "More Growth Potential"  Dam!!].  Some game (Fan boy) sites and companies who machines arent selling call them "casuals"  Whats a company to do with all those gamers?  Thats not a question Nintendo would ask.  It would be How do we maintain this bigger group and still grow?  Its not "let try something different" it was more of "Let do something different."  Wii fit was a "Fantastic" ideal.  it was definately different, new, and it has appeal and still growing. (Know any other company that would put out a motion wieght sensing yoga body stretching excersie scale?)"  Sony and Microsoft are playing it safe with the standard Game reiteration formula...  Ip introduction, Ip enforcment, Ip application...  repeat with a same name new number "cough" Halo odst, reach, xyz or whatever.  Sony with thier (heaven forbid) Warhawk 2, Heavenly Sword 2 or something with (wait for it)  "3" attached to it.  I'm glad Nintendo is where thier at.  That way they can shoot for 100 million in sales if the miss that mark 10 - 25 - 65 million is ok too.  "IGN can suck eggs" or maybe put out thier own IGN gaming system with games they think you should be playing instead of speaking on things they have NO IDEAL WHAT THEY'ER TALKING ABOUT!!!  Keep on reading and reviewing what you prefer or thinks whats best.  Surely you know whats best is not what sales the most.  Its seems whats most "FUN" (Nintendo Games) still makes the most cash...  nuff said.

Yeah people are right gameplay > graphics; but nothing has stopped games like Gears of War, Uncharted or Killzone 2 from having BOTH great gameplay and awesome graphics.

And I agree with the majority of things said in the OP. Wii owners should take a stand and demand more great games and improvements to their console instead of sitting back and defending Nintendo. Nintendo is quite content sitting back and counting their money. Its good to see the Wii getting good games like SMG2 and a new Zelda though.

Your entire argument is predicated on a faulty assumption though. You assume the people defending Nintendo have a desire for the features, and qualities of the competing console. This is ridiculous for one huge reason. They, intentionally, did not buy the competitions product. Implicitly they have rejected those features, and values in favor of Nintendo's way. It is simply a matter of preference that many internet gamers have a hard time wrapping their heads around. This is to be expected since it is an entirely different perspective with completely foreign values, and desires.

Then why are they the ones who, by far, make the most threads in here complaining? About 3rd parties, bad ports, reviews, online, no storage etc. I'm not saying Wii owners want what the HD consoles offer, those who do go out and buy another console but no one can deny that the Wii could be improved upon on many areas. It is not wrong to demand something, that's how markets work you know, the consumers are not dictated by the manufacturers, its the other way around and has always been.

This exactly, especially the last sentence.

I'm not saying the Wii should be full 1080p with Blu-ray (I don't even care that much for Blu-ray) but you can't possibly say you're happy with the 3rd party support you're getting and that a good online system wouldn't be nice.

This thread calls for an Einstein quote, albeit a bit modified,

Any fool can make something bigger, more elaborate and expensive in the gaming market.

It takes a touch of genius to make it more simple, addictive and fun.

Current hd owners have become incredible whining babies from the looks of it, every console should offer the same thing it seems. Yet consoles from the NES days have always been about being different from each other, not just by games, but by features that can be implemented into them. The difference right now is that elitist gamers have become quite greedy for any feature that would mean they could further make their life more lazy.

Online play and DLC are so insignificant on the market that it actually must be too painful for most to realize it, especially DLC. Multiplayer is great, no doubt, but it is just incredibly stupid for people to say that they won't buy a game if it lacks mp. Games have also been always about single player modes, unless the games were specifically made to be about playing together.

the way i see it, if someone values co-op online over single player modes would probably mean that the gamer is desperate for friends, even if only online. The best way to help would kick his ass, destroy his consoles and make him go out and find friends in the real world.... Okay maybe too radical but i really don't understand why anyone would value on-line mp over single player modes in games.

Actually, if "from the looks of it" means "from the looks of it in here", its the quite the opposite. Like I mentioned in an eariler post; see who makes the most threads complaining about this and that. And if anyone says "but you can't base the average Wii owner on those in here" again, you might be right but that also goes for PS360 owners, making yanamaster's point unfair and fundamentally untrue.

I give this thread a IGN out of 10

Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?

yes , and i apologize for going off topic, but the reason why the wii gets attacked or hated on all the time is because hardcore gamers see what the wii is doing to the industry, sure there happy with sony and microsoft now, but they see how nintendo has abandoned them for their massive profits on casual games, soon microsoft and sony will do the same starting with this gens motion controllers. the wii has changed the entire plane of gaming demographics, and i think by the end of next gen their might not be a hardcore audience anymore.in the end their will only be shovelware and mario.
