You can't compare PSP and PS3 as PSP's software selling capabilities in the west are awful. In Japan, who knows maybe DQIX could have done just as well on PSP.

But that's not what the Tales ratio stated above implies.  So why would that apply to Wii/PS3 universally for JRPGs, but not DS/PSP?  What makes Tales a standard bearer for one, but not the other?

That is completely false, the ship has sailed regarding Wii equalling DS, same for PS3 and PSP.

I'm saying Tales isn't a good indicator, since it's fanbase doesn't seem to behave along larger genre lines historically.  DS/PSP proves that out... the franchise has ALWAYS been proportionately big on PlayStation (PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3) and relatively middling elsewhere (SFC, GBC, GBA, GC, DS, 360, Wii... 3DS?).

Wii/PS3 are actually pretty similar to DS/PSP in audience and sales trends too, but I'd admit they're somewhat more polarized at this point.
