ok, so the whole argument over the 50k NPD difference for December (x360 vs ps3 obviously) and this immage inspired the thread. I'm sure half of this thread will turn into a joke thread, but I thought it deserved some merit.

My own opinion, yes, statistical ties matter. This whole website (and NPD) is based of statistics, so why should we claim one side "won" if statistics says otherwise.

if you really think about it

Does it really matter if Wii is the number one selling console?? While lesser sold consoles are getting way more quality third party titles?

Does it really matter Carnival game sold so well? Even though the quality of the game is... subpar?

Does it really matter #%# won game of the year? When you don't even play it?


Heck, if you think in that line. Nothing matters.

Honestly, who gives a crap about numbers? A few 1,2 and 3 and you got yourself a value that people care the world for.

So the ps3 supposedly sold more than the 360, and the wii sold alot as usual, and the psp which has the best game ever created isn't doing to well, and the wii is hypnotoad plus makes you give it your money, and I just took some LSD and now have this unexplainable desire to dance around and change my account name to wesselwoggle...

If we have Vgchartz saying Xbox 360 > PS3 and NPD saying PS3 > Xbox 360 but by a much smaller margin then we would have to either say tie or Xbox 360 victory. Theres no PS3 win in here really as statistics leans towards the Xbox 360 console even if NPD which has a slightly smaller margin of error leans the other way.

A statistical tie doesn't actually mean that they tied. We don't literally get the receipts for every single copy of a game sold, so the numbers are an educated guess. If our numbers say it sold 150,000, it doesn't mean that literally 150,000 copies were sold, it's just a ballpark figure. It could be 140-160k. So, if two games sold close enough to one another, we call it a 'statistical tie' because we can't say for sure which one sold more.

Within 1 or 2% I consider it a tie. For me a "win" has to break the 3% barrier.

I hope Norlead sees this thread so he can close it for flaming.
