The SCEA statement has been posted 3 times now :-p

I'm a little sceptical about some of these figures - the Wii/DS stuff seems way higher than we've seen - not saying who is right or who is wrong but remember that NPD get zero data for Walmart / TRU (which make up over 1/3 of the market at this time of year) so there is a lot of educated guesswork going on here.

As for 360 / PS3 - again data is probably good to +/-10% so I'd certainly be reluctant to say one console beat the other based on this data.

But yeah, interesting month - sure there will be discussions about this data for a while...

out of interest, what do you think about Nintendo's 3m Wii comment compared to NPD's 3.8m Wii sales? I mean, assuming that USA = 90% of the market, NA would have broke 4m sales which I'm sure Nintendo would have boasted about.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

Bowser did great this month :)

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

@ioi - I felt the same way about the wii DS numbers. Very similar to last december when the descrepancy between vgchartz and npd was so large.

I wish npd would be more clear about how they track, because it doesn't really make sense

the PSP is dead in the west, but in JAPAN its one of the best selling platforms.

It's not doing that exceptionally in Japan either anyway, sales in 2009 were nearly 1.5m down from 2008 and it's best selling game was a budget rerelease.  For hardware it's still second (barely), but for software it's a distant 3rd.

Does VGC get some data from Walmart/TRU ?

first of all, what is all this about statistical tie?

What is the margin of error, and what is the confidence interval. Until somebody can rightly say what it is, none of that can be determined.

Well Ubisot, Capcom and Sega. Maybe its time to reconsider that "refocus" on HD consoles. If they dont want to go bankrupt

By the way Darth, these error margins mean PS3 fans can claim that the PS3 sold 1M units in a week, two weeks in a row, given a 10% error margin.

Just read on IGN, NPD says 3.8 MILLION Wiis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHATTTT!

what circumstances, some sites were predicting 400k for the PSP this month, many people were saying it wasnt selling at all in their stores. The PSP has lost tons of momemtums coming to December, that number is fine.

The number's terrible and so is the continual downward spiral considering the platform saw arguably it's best software lineup since 2005 and a platform refresh with GO.  Sony's huge PSP push this year has been a complete bust, hardware's still sliding and software's abysmal.  I'm not sure what they need to do, or what they can do even, but if they don't do something they'll have a dead platform this time next year.

no they are not terrible.

Its sold a fine amount of units for a platform thats doomed, not selling games & so on

The hardware is making money for sony
