I plan on picking it up after it has dropped in price, no way am I paying 60 for it! It seems more like 29.99 kind of game!

yarn! we had this talk about FPS many many years ago. Nothing new
didn't stop FPS games from selling on console, didn't stop MK to be one of the most successful game current gen. I don't see how it will stop Modnation

I believe this game will do much like LBP...it will start off slow and gradually pick up.

Modnation Racer can be a lot more fun than LBP. That game is pretty boring an uneventful. Atleast with modnation racer there is a reason to play it... winning the race! I'd hope that it will sell more than LBP. I hope there are tournament options or cup options with friends where you can select or 5 tracks and have a challenge or something. That would make it even more fun. I think with LBP they got so caught up with trying to give the level creators so much freedom that they forgot to answer one main question. Why am I playing this game? What's the challenge?
I'd say it depends on the core gameplay. This type of racing title can be very popular, and of course has a good chance in Others/Japan with the racing crowd there.
However, if the racing is just okay with editing tracks and lots of custom tracks as the main draw then it will sell okay but probably not to LBP levels.
If the racing is really good and fun, plus the editing works well, then I believe it could do very well.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
I think it could even do better. Best case scenario is it becomes a Mario Kart killer of sorts (I hate the phrase ___ killer) and appeals to all age groups; but the worst case scenario is its too complicated (the track creator, etc.) and people see it as a cheap Mario Kart ripoff.
Realistically I expect it to have a slow start but have great legs. I'd be super happy if it reached 3m like LBP did.

That's what beta's are for! Hopefully enough people said this and they fix the controls (or even make the control scheme customizable)
ModNation benefits from the experience Sony got from LittleBigPlanet.
What mean that is LBP praved the way very nicely on it's time. That knowledge will be beyond (BEYOND) helpful in marketing game.
With the knowledge and experience, I will say it has the potential of 5 million in a years time.

i have....a feeling XD We just don't really have a good kart game, and they are very popular and accessible. |
You have a very high expectation for the kart game market. I'll propose you another bet so that we can get even if I got them both wrong.
MNR will not be bigger than LBP after one year.
Also, I don't understand all the people who expect MNR to sell 5 mil in the first year. There are only two PS3 games that have done that - GTAIV and MW2. I can see GT5 to achieve that, but MNR? which is a new IP out of nowhere... seriously?
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
