Forums - Gaming Discussion - [Kotaku] There Is Enough Discarded Final Fantasy XIII To Make Another Game

Maybe the content was removed because of the X360 port, but it seems to me that it's for the better anyway. Hearing what the content that was cut was going to be -- a zoo? seriously? -- I'd say that SE overdeveloped before I'd say that the 360 held it back.

Dedicated FF fans wouldn't mind an FF that was longer than 100 hours, but the average RPG player likely does not want a game with more than 50-70 hours of story and directed gameplay. XV would be out before anyone could even get to the end of XIII.

It really depends on what was cut. As a hardcore FF fan, I dont mind if the story is 50 or less hours long, thats no problem but I'd like to have lots of sidequests and tons of extra places to explore. If they cut potential "Omega Ruins" and "Necrohol of Nabudises" then it's sad. If they cut out the "Rabanastre Palace" then I couldn't care less. It could all be for DLC though so who knows.

right blame the 360...don't blame PS3's lower userbase and high development costs this gen. It's all the 360's fault.

And we should totally ignore how abysmal JRPGs have been on the 360 right? Right now PS3 is looking like the system for JRPGs to go to.

that's not the point, just because it sells more on PS3 doesn't mean there isn't value in putting it on 360 as well for SE.  If you want to whine go whine to Sony about not money hatting the game.  Or better yet blame blu-ray for all the content missing.  Blu-ray is one of main reasons for the low user base, which is the reason they are making it multi-plat, which is the reason why blu-ray isn't being taken advantage of in FF13.  Blu-ray just defeated itself in this case.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

SE has been very lazy, whilst some features were obviously cut from the game because of the multiplatform issue, really SE could have done better, they have become greedy because of Wada and now milk FF instead of making quality titles.
I am hoping Nomura(and his team) will fix this problem, as he seems to be the only one left who understands the meaning of quality, and how to make a proper FF.

please tell me your joking

I was being serious, unfortunately, Nomura may be introducing some Kingdom Hearts elements to that game, but damm it looks so much better than FF XIII, plus he is a PS Fanboy so he is bound to do the PS3 some justice, expect a huge explorable game, also he is making it mature so don't worry, it won't be as kiddy as Kindom Hearts (I love KH).

Anyway FF XIII will be great to many people, as everybodies taste is different to mine, so not everyone will feel the same way as I do about how FF is changing, have you read how much content they have cut out??

it's the future of handheld

wow, on kotaku forum, there is only 1-2 posts about how it might be the dvd limit.

I used to be on kotaku and left cuz it was bursting with 360fanboys. It says right in the interview "volume constraints"

For me it was clear too, not less than obvious.

seems less likely to me.  I mean, does even Blu-ray have enough space for "Twice the game."

Does it even make sense for the game to be any longer let alone twice as long considering how much they said it was?

Was the content they cut even any good?  If so we'll see it in downloadble content.

Stuff gets cut out of games all the time.

When I read the comment I thought he meant "there is enough artwork for another game". Not neccessarily doubling FFXIII playtime. It's probably just some optional extras that they had in, and with the limits of DVD, they felt it was appropriate to cut it. We may see some as DLC, but certainly not all as by the sound of things it was pretty large. If anything, they'll probably put the artwork into another FFXIII spin-off like Versus.

Actually, when the art director said that (if this interview is true, because no one is really sure yet...) he said that there were enough "content" to do another game, and he even said that there were some 'areas' (like caracter houses, Chocobo farm, and others) that were cut off. If thats true, then we can say that there were indeed a lot more cut off than simple 'extras'.
