lol, pokemon had no hype??? It is arguably the most watched anime in the world. Maybe you didn't hype about it, but millions of kids have.
let's face it, how many people are still playing Wiifit after first month? |
The Pokemon cartoon may have come out ahead of the game, but it wasn't out a full year before the game or anything like that. If you want I can give several more examples of games that had relatively little hype but became monster hits like Super Mario Bros., Nintendogs, Wii Sports, Tetris, Donkey Kong, or The Sims.
You're right, comparing GTA IV with Pokemon 1 and Wii Fit isn't fair. GTA IV had a $100 million dollar budget, non-stop hype in the hardcore gamer media and three uber-successful prequels to build on. It should have been expected to sell far more than the very first game in the Pokemon and Wii Fit lineups!
*Pant, pant*...sorry for the rant! All I'm really trying to say is that for Natal to be a phenomenon it needs a killer app that consumers demand. So far all we've seen is Milo and I don't believe that's the killer app they're looking for. Could be wrong...maybe a lot of users out there can't wait to have an imaginary friend, but I think the "loner" market is already heavily tapped by traditional video games.

Look at the Wii itself. I remember reading the specs and thinking "it sounds shit". Then I saw the Wii Remote for the first time and thought "WTF?". As soon as I saw the first Wii Sports demo I knew it was gonna sell millions though. Natal on its own isn't what's going to sell it. It's the software/features that are possible because of it that will sell it. |
Absolutely, and I will admit that's the flip side to the "Show me the software" coin that I keep tossing at Natal: I'm not convinced until I see the software, but I can't say it will be worthless either! Natal could be huge but it needs the right games. It can't succeed on its own.
To quote Greenburg, ".. as far as I am aware, a HDD is not required".
Of all the people in the world, shouldn't he be beyond "aware"? If anyone should have a definitive answer as to if a HDD is required or not, Greenburg should be able to give a more definite answer.
Natal will sell millions, All of my friends with xbox's are already hyped(atleast over 30). All said they would pick up or preorder the first day. They want it more for casual and the interactive tech natal invites.
face recognition, voice recognition. Not getting off ur couch to put on a movie or scrolling through your music or whatever else.
I say just because these options, this will sell millions to xbox owners and new comers. I bet natal will move over 5 million in first week if there is enough to go around. where talking about atleast half xbox owners will go out and buy natal or even a second system if they bundle, which they will. thats fifteen million and how many for the new comers...
Get ready for a explosion, when this hits you will ship your pants.
DUDE MY MOM WANTS ONE. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME, CALLED ME UP AND WANTS IT FOR CHRISTMAN 2010. SHE SEEN IT ON A TALK SHOW.
MY MOM DIDN'T WANT A WII BUT THE HANDS FREE THING DID IT FOR HER. IT WILL DO IT FOR MORE THEN WHAT YOU PEOPLE HERE THINK, ALL THIS NEGATIVE POSTS
I GUESS THIS SITE CAN'T SEE ANYTHING OUT OF HARDCORE GAMING, CASUAL MARKET IS GOING TO GO NUTS...

I think your a lil ahead with those numbers you got.
My Prodictions
Wii: 86 m 360: 50 m PS3: 42 m

I'm looking forward to all the stuff that Natal can do that the Wii can't do as well. Navigating the dashboard with a wave of my hand, or via voice recognition. Being able to select music tracks or a video to play just by saying it. There are a ton of applications for this tech that people aren't even thinking of, and also some people seem to forget that it's coming to the PC as well. For PC owners, it could be a web cam that suddenly opens up a whole new way of interfacing with the operating system. Also, I tend to agree with Yahtzee about motion controls - they can never truly work without feedback, e.g. you can do a light saber battle, but when you clash sabers, there's no feedback there. It's not realistic at all in that respect. Taking motion controls beyond holding some kind of controller doesn't address the realism issue, but it frees you in several other ways and it will allow you to use Natal while you're still holding a regular 360 controller in your hands.
@banned2010
5! Million in first week ?
Thats not gona happen never ever. Its just impossible the biggest week for a console was 2 Mln and that was for DS. Even if it would be a HUGE HISTORiCAL success it would never achiev 5 Million.
This thing wont be for free. 5 Million is just insane sorry..
Even if it would sell more then Wiifit add on and all Xbox would be bundled and in a non Holiday week the Xbox would sell more then the highest Week for a gaming device ever in history it still wouldnt reach this 5 Million you mentioned.
I cant describe with words how impossible this is. You know 30 persons who would buy it ? Ok guess what I know 50 persons which never heard of natal or Wand or anything and they own Consoles. Infact I know only a handful of people which know about it.
You think that your family and friends reflect america or even the world ?
5 Million sales for natal first week wont happen. Want to bet ? One week ban ?
Your scenario will happen only if natal+Halo reach= 60 Dollar. But a 3d camera is no lotech its expensive.
