Here is a video showing Tegra 2 in action:

Cool, huh? Do you think the next Nintendo handheld will use Tegra 2? What if the rumours become true?

Its cool, but I think they over-state how powerful it is ... From that demo I would say that you're looking at a GPU which would be fairly competitive against the Geforce series at (roughly) a Geforce 4; which is a graphics card from 2002. This is probably in-line with the kind of performance you'd expect from Nintendo's next handheld, but I'd doubt Nintendo would choose this GPU.

if Nintendo do use a Tegra 2 looks likely, I think they will probably go for a lower clocked variant so they can maintain battery life but even then they will be nearing NGC and hence the Wii in graphical power. actual performance will depend on the speed and amount of the ram they use though.

P.S. the Tegra 2 isn't gust a GPU it's a system on a chip design incorperating one or two ARM cores (like the one in the DS but more advanced) and GPU components aswell memory controlers etc

Nice tech, but more tech isn't always the answer. First it's likely that we won't see Tegra 2 soon. It's going to be more expensive. Likely noticeably more expensive to use than what's in the PSP. Even if they can shave the cost to be competitive the speed and capabilities of the chip aren't the only important parts. Theres the ram and bus. Both of which requires to be upped to that of the Tegra. Otherwise it will be a waste. So even if Tegra can be cheap it's going to spike the cost of the machine way more than just the costs of the chip.

I like companies pushing tech, but these pushed tech rarely get implements because of the support issues. It's the tech that's refined when the supportive technologies required come down in price. So yeah. Consider us to always be a decade behind in consumer hardware

I'm wondering now after seeing this if OnLive isn't going to be some form of future mobile gaming standard..

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Judging from that youtube video, that looks kinda on par with Quake 3... or the video just looks to bad and I can't really tell.

The Tegra 2 will probably be more expensive than the "tech" in the PSP, but the PSP is a 5 year old system; and this doesn't mean that the Tegra 2 would be unusually expensive for a handheld system.

The reason I don't think that it is likely Nintendo would choose this chip is because I would expect Nintendo to favour ARM or IBM for the CPU in their next handheld and AMD/ATI for their next GPU because Nintendo has a (very) good working relationship with these companies.

I mean it looks good for a mobile device but I'd like to see some more demos.

That was in a small space with fairly simple geometry and alot of dark corners. If they are talking about this facilitating development in tandem with PC or home console games I'd need to see alot more than what was shown in that demo.

like I mentioned in my last post the Tegra actualy includes an ARM processor or even 2 so it's not like they are abandoning ARM and should mean backwards compatibility should be easy to implement.

So... Tegra has an ARM processor? It seems to be a good deal for Nintendo, they are using ARM since the gba.

It's the blood spatter that makes it look more dated than it is. I thought i was looking at Quake 2 or something for a while there

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
