Forums - Sales - So we see that this site undertracks the XBOX 360- why?

VGChartz says that the PS3 has sold 31 million units. I don't want that to be the case. Therefore, I accuse VGchartz of undertracking the PS3 by 34 million units.

I love fanboy logic :3

I guess there's no need to add more - but why do people assume that a number from the company is some exact number either?

Ever notice how quoted numbers are nice, rounded ones? It's never 'We've sold 38,500,678' million, it's always 31 or 32 or 39.

So guess what, for starters Bullmer's number is almost certainly rounded - either up, which is most likely, or down, which is less likely as whatever the real number is it's not going to be a nice neat number with lots of zeros.

Two, almost no vendor of consumer electronics knows exactly what's been sold to the customer. They know what they sold to the retailers, they get some info from the retailers, but most retailers don't bother sharing their sales or if they do it is in less than regular updates.

So any number from Sony, MS or whoever, whether they say in homes or not, is almost certainly shipped or simply an estimate based on shipped which is likely to be on the generous side.

While this sites numbers might not be spot on - it's based on samples and estimates and so on - nothing from a quote like that from Bullmer means anything unless there was a huge difference, which there actually isn't taking all things into account.

In the end the 360 might be undertracked and for all we know so might the PS3 and the Wii. In the end you either take the site's estimates on the basis they are provided or you don't - but there's no point crying foul every time a bit of rounded info is quoted.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

@Viper1

I agree with most of what you said except get off the channel stuffing stuff. Retailers in the economy of the last 2 years would give MS the collective middle finger if MS tried to stuff the channel. Stuffing the channel requires retailers to purchase. Also for the real big retailers they dont purchase from distributors.

Just because some of the big guns don't buy from a distributor doesn't mean a very sizable portion of the market doesn't.  The distribution network can easily account for a very large chunk of in transit and wharehoused units causing a large discrepancy between unit sale figures at retail and units shipped from the manufacturer.

Talk about gang rape.. Halo Reach you must be sore after this mob come down on you, I do agree with you though completely Maybe not quite 1.4 million but a good 800k. The numbers since the PS Slim release just don't add up in my mind. Call it a hunch if you will.

All numbers until December are confirmed by NPD GFK Famitsu and Media create. If someone doubts the numbers it can be just numbers for December 800k or 1.4 Million additionally sold in December are impossible. The whole year down YOY and now by far the best december ? To reach these numbers Xbox360 would have like ps3 two almost 1 Million weeks. But they didnt achieved that even in its peak year. So why now ? Wait for Npd if  it doesnt reflects your wishes then it never happened.

its just impossible. Xbox numbers were adjusted up right now by 120k. You think ioi lied or made the numbers up to make a cosnole look good he didnt even like that much ? thats an insult and those claims are ridicoulus we an make a bet anytime you want Npd will confirm that and GFK too sooner or later.

Dont, you know that all numbers until december were always adjusted up or down if the numbers of the sales trackers where different ? No way in hell is vgchartz off by that much 120k was a lot but 800k or 1.4 Million impossible. Do you doubt all numbers until december ? Because if yes then you doubt also all other numbers out there is there any rational reason to do this ?

"This thread should of ended like 150 years ago"

Agreed,
For God's sake, we all know that the 2+ million are those that shipped.
vgchartz is the most accurate only second but who knows?

the flow should be really over stocked, because 360 was never selling a same rate of the ps3.

i think it's a bit overtracked, just a bit.

They shouldn't be

well, it is important to let them create thread

but those threads should be closed when everything has been said (after explaining to this guy what the forum/mod/ioi think about the concern).

that would avoid unecessary ban ... (yeah, I m talking about me)
