Forums - Sony Discussion - Metal Gear Solid 4- Does anyone else think it's massively overrated?

It's OK, but lets face it, it's a CGI movie with some gameplay thrown in. You probably spend more time loading the game than you do playing it.

MGS4 is not overrated, it's one of the greatest games of all time and my personal favourite, togather with Uncharted 2.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

For me is overrated, there were way too much CGI, great gameplay but the scenes sometimes drive me crazy.
It's still one of the gems of the generation, only is not THAT awesome, at least for me.

no not at all

MGS4 IS the BEST GAME EVER & nothing will probably beat it this gen, most likely not even FFXIII or Zelda Wii

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

U liked uncharted 1 more than mgs4? what the hell. I didn't even could force me to complete this generic piece of crap.

MGS4 was an OK game. Some very special and genious moments dragged down by an oversaturated story created for the nerds of the franchise but for noone else.

I agree my oh my uncharted 1 IS overrated on this site, its a 8.5 at best imo....a very good game but nothing more

but uncharted 2 just completely blew everything apart & was like a gazillion times better than uncharted 1, except for snake!

I heard it was very sad but EVA's and Naomi's death were very poorly acted out with terrible dialogue and hearing Otacon cry just made me angry at how that could've made it into this game.

Yeah, characters take a very long time to die in the Metal Gear series. I'm looking at you Big Boss (Gee whiz, I actualy stopped feeling sorry for the guy and just wanted him to die already. )

As for Otacon... yeah... not the best VO I've heard... plenty of eye rolling moments for sure.

Other than that, It's a solid (haha pun) title. It's definitely not my favorite MGS game (3 is my favorite).

Just be thankful that DTG isn't here anymore. That man loved this game... to the point where it wasn't healthy.

The guy who thought it was the greatest piece of art ever created? And the Black Knight Stole from it...

Former something....

Wow thanks for all the responses guys, I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about, IGN, VG Chartz, OPM, Kokizo, Gamespot etc all gave it the full marks so I expected to be blown away with the most amazing story telling, cut scences and gameplay. Not only were my expectations super high but even just taking it as a game within it's own right I was surprised at how amateurish the whole experiance was. However I can see why the massive fans of the series would gloss over all it's shortcomings. Someone said the VO was bad but it didn't bother them as it's MGS while it bothered me. I downloaded MGS1 and am enjoying it still after all those years. MGS4 started off well I'll give it that. I just think it couldv'e been so much better.

From Kokizo 10/10-
It's stupid, it's nonsensical, it's over the top, it's full of awful dialogue, it demands long sittings and it hasn't changed much from the first game ten years ago. But then, it's Metal Gear Solid, so who cares? It's undeniably brilliant, captivating, exciting and downright fantastic, definitely worthy of at least a few furrowed brows throughout the experience.

The above is why it's split gamers down the middle. They admit the dialouge is awful and story convoluted. Not only that they called it stupid and nonsensical. And it still garnered a 10/10 because it's a Hideo Kojima MGS game.

It's not overrated. Kojima made an awesome game filled with nostalgia moments that you won't understand if you didn't play MGS1 back in the day. Couldn't believe how awesome it was when I stepped in Shadow Moses again and the ending music from MGS1 started playing.

That's the point of the game I realized how much I loved the original MGS so much more than MGS4. I wanted this whole section to stay in MGS1 graphics and gameplay.
