Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I still can't believe why Mario Galaxy didnt sell more.

"It's just 9 million copies sold." is what he is saying.

Galaxy was innovative (though I didn't really like it much), but when its comes to the one thing that made SMBWii and Kart loved so much this gen it was seriously lacking. Co-op play.

That's it, seriously. The number of people who want to play the single version of those games are outnumbered by those who want the competitive play.

I consider 8 million to be mainstream. Just not as mainstream as 20 million.

i agree, Galaxy should have sold more than Mario Kart and NSMB, maybe multiplayer is the major reason?

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Galaxy could of sold more but I think MK and NSMBW were pushed a lot harder then SMG was but then again if Galaxy came out today it probably could go on to sell more then 10m because the momentum Nintendo games have now is much more then in 2007, 8m+ is still a huge number though as few games reach that mark. SMG2 will probably sell much more because not only do Nintendo have the momentum behind their games but it'll also be recognized as the sequel to arguably the greatest 3d platform game around.

I think MK and NSMB simply appeals to a wider audience. I don´t think grannies or small children can handle a 3d game that well.

And what is MK, the, 2d? XD

Seriously though, I can see your point and I agree 2D Mario is more accessible and appeals to more people. Plus, multiplayer.

AH! 99% of all developers would want their games to sell 9 million copies

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

If it was faster paced, like the 2D Marios, it would have sold better.

And I don't just mean more active. I mean structured more like the 2D Mario games.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
