Also SMG is not a masterpiece. As people here have mentioned, it's just got to do with the gameplay and limited multiplayer (it's not even multiplayer. It's really crap co-op).

Its the best platformer this gen....it definitely is a masterpiece.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

More competition when Galaxy released, lots of NSMBWii bundles. Pretty much everywhere over christmas has the Wii/Sports Resort/NMSB Wii bundle.

Not that NSMB Wii wouldn't sell anyway, but I think had a large part in such consistantly large sales.

That doesn't expalin why SMG didn't sell as much. And what competition did SMG supposedly have? Last I checked, MK Wii and NSMBWii were up against some stiff competition.

With the uber incredible sales of Mario Kart, New super mario bros and a few other mario related games i can't believe Galaxy has sold about 9mill when it's clearly the masterpiece of the Wii, i do like NSBW and mario kart but they are knowhere near galaxy and yet they will more than double its sales when its all said and done, why do you think so?

Not that 9mill is bad, its great but if any Mario game deserved uber sales on the wii then it was galaxy.

I guess the classic 2D Mario games (NSMBW) are more approachable to the "casual" audience so they are more popular; even if SMG is the higher quality game of the two. 9 million is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, that's amazing. Halo 3 and MW2 are the only non-Wii games to sell 9 million or more (or soon to be).

You think being bundled with almost every Wii sold over a christmas period wouldn't help sales?

What makes you think it was? I could see a bunch of store deals, but there are no official bundles.

And it definitely can't be the case in Japan, where the game sells twice as much as the Wii each week.

Yes, store deals.  Pretty much every store and every deal included NSMB Wii.  Was not like that when Galaxy released.  You seem to have glossed over my stating it would sell anyway even though you quoted it, so there is Japan.

You did also state the bolded part. And you did basically claim that it's selling so fast because of the store deals, and that if SMG had those, that would have been the case, but store deals don't work that way.

Plus you seeing all those store deals is still an anecdote. I didn't see any, but I'm not going to claim the number is 0.

Lol, it's funny to see people arguing about what Nintendo can do to make a 9 million title sell "well". I guess that's what being compared to monsters like Mario Kart and NSMBWii does for a game.

9 Million is a Mega-hit by anyone's standards. Nintendo's standards just happen to be throught the roof these days...

Galaxy is a fantastic game, and it has exeptionally good sales for a 3D platformer.

NSMBWii is a fantastic game and has sales on par with other 2D Mario games.

Simple as that.

I LOVE ICELAND!

It's selling less than a million in Japan that was the main factor, along with not being a system seller.
