A 5770 is about equal to a 4870, which is a step up from a 4850, only there's DX11, Eyefinity, a lot less power consumption/heat... so I don't really see how it's overkill.

I meant too expensive. With 4850s at $100, a $170 5770 isn't worth it unless you really value DX11 or the lower power consumption.

Right, that's true.

Though, I think Newegg has been discounting them a bit lately as well.

The main reason I went with the vid card i did was the directx 11 support. I haven't had a chance to resaerch if it is really worth it though. I would like the card to last a least 2 years, if not 3-4. And I wanted 8 gigs of ram becuase I like to play video games and browse the internet or work on open office documents at the same time, I wasn't sure if 6 gigs was enough. If it is I would probably downgrade to six, and maybe add more later, I dont think 4 gigs would be enough would it? The cheapest i7 is a hundred dollars more i think, and I dont think i would acutally use its power as the most cpu intensive thing i do i recode movie formats or burn dvds. and I am all for getting a cheaper mobo, I dont really overclock or do anything special per se. Just like to have a nice easy running quick machine. Thank you guys for the input, I dont have time to redo my opening post with new parts from the suggestions but I will tomorrow and look forward to more input

I simply cannot fathom people who say they can buy a high end complete rig for 600$, here in Norway that barely gets you a decent GPU and RAM.

Its crazy that newegg isn't world wide. As far as I know almost every home pc builder uses them in the us (or tiger direct/ebay)

Show me some practicality, those are really expensive for a total upgrade =)

If I were you I would cut the ram back to 4GB as thats plenty for almost any task and switch the graphics card up to the HD 5850 if you can.

My reasons?

1. Modern graphics cards can help with encoding so more = better.

2. You'll benefit from a faster graphics card more than an extra 4GB of ram.

If you have $1000 to spend then just buy a new one.

bump ( i updated the hard ware again)

You shouldn't get tri-channel (3x) RAM kits for anything but an Intel X58 board. You should get RAM in powers of 2, I suggest 4GB as 8GB really is overkill. So 2x2GB.
