Forums - Sony Discussion - What Was It That Killed The PSP?

Piracy, The DS, The iTouch, lack of software for the average consumer, and saying every year is going to be "The year of the PSP".

I think it was the experience that Nintendo attained with the Gameboy that led Nintendo to make the better handheld, that and Overprice

2010 Hardware Sales Predictions

Wii: 20m- Sales will drop, but not by much.

PS3: 13.5m- It sold 12m in 2009, its only common sense it will sell more this year.

Xbox 360: 11m- It sold 11m in 2008 and 2009, I think it will sell the same.

My Fanboy Speech...

Why do you have to make excuses to defend a product that you purchased, but that's the only connection you have to it, you don't make it, you don't lose or gain money on it. I don't see where all of the defensiveness comes in, there is no reason for you or anybody else to feel obligated to defend it. Now I would understand if one of you were a developer for the product and you slaved over said product only to hear somebody call it stupid or a piece of junk. But none of you developed it, none of you are mature enough to realize that. Choosing a product all comes down to preference, you chose said product because it is best for you. Simple as that!

though the PSP isn't dead, piracy is what hurt the PSP in the software depatment! I have a friend who has about 20+ games for his PSP and didn't buy a single one

I think it might have been syphillus. Wait, that was Mozart. . . hmm. . .

DS + Sony

3 reasons

1. Lack of support by Sony especially on 2008.
2. Lot of ports. PS2 to PSP? Wii to PSP? DS to PSP?
3. Piracy ( everyone who denies that are only fooling themselves ) It sure helps sell a lot of hardware but it became a double edge sword and really hurt Sony in the long run.

It's the mixture of those 3.

PS. PSP is not a failure selling 55 million ( still selling ) is not a failure. I really hope Metal gear and KH will invigorate it sale for one last push and PSP is still far from dead yet thanks to Japan.

What evidence do you have that it is a major cause?  Even the Ipod one of the most popular Personal media players on the market only made 48 million from gaming even though i believe it's growing faster than the PSP.   You don't need all the games in the world when you can search the internet, listen to music, watch videos etc.

I used to have a link the site traffic of the site that people used to network update their psp with custom firmware and their traffic was nothing amazing.

If anything it was piracy that helped psp hardware sell.....it definitely wouldnt be at 55 million if there wasnt any piracy.
