I don't know why everyone thinks it would become another version of Oblivion. Bethesda's the only developer who makes those kind of huge open world games, there are plenty of WRPGs that do not follow this trend.

On a sidenote, it's hilarious to see people trashing WRPGs here that completely ignore the faults of JRPGs.

I am sure most of them know about the huge difference between open world/freedom Oblivion and linear/focused Mass Effect's and Fable's but they just choose to be a lil sarcastic on purpose I guess. :/

Fixed. you need to listen more western podcasts

They are already to western.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I say no, because things marketed at the west tend to not be as good on average, but after thinking about it, what does the FF series have to lose? It's already crashed through the floor, and Square seems to be scared to try to sell anything without those 2 words in the title...

-On a quest for the truly perfect game; I don't think it exists...

Finally a Fantasy that might be worth playing :)

Final Fantasy was never a series to be stuck into a same JRPG conception, even in the early days, don't forget that FFII was one of the first overall JRPG to actually put up a Job-like system in which you had to train every stat and every weapon in order to evolve.

The main problem between established franchises going beyond the complete borders of what they achieve in past games is the alienation of their entire fan base.
Final Fantasy have always been a series about changes and different approaches to the JRPG genre, but never have they strayed away from it, it's an entire different ball game to go for an entire new genre.

ff8 for example, best jrpg ever, but people hated it, because they wanted ff VII 2 CLOUD REvange.

It was hated true, but most of the Fanbase bought it as well and there are quite a number of fans who loved it. All FF have the fans who love it and the fans who hate it.

Most old school FF fans dislike FFVII in detriment of FFVI, because they too wanted a FF VI kefka's return or something.

Well, if it'd be Western-developed, it'd feature big burly, rough macho men with big-ass guns instead of the more feminine slender Japanese characters wielding magic. Might just be fun to see in a FF game.
