The very end of this gen is a funny thing to say now due to NATAL & PS Motion, SONY/MS may have increased the time of this gen by a further 3 - 4 years

There isnt much they will be able to do from this point on to lower costs.  The cheaper it gets, the slower it is to lower production costs further.  And it's already at half the launch price and less than half the original production cost.  So for another PS3 redesign, it wouldn't save them much at all... wouldn't be worth it until a few years have gone by and production cost savings have racked up.

And depending on bundling of the new motion add-ons, it may well never reach $199 (if it is bundled with every new system, which it should to maximize user base).

no, but  hopefully Sony can give us games like they did in : 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, but it's a long shot.

Yeah but did we even think Uncharted 2 would be the big gun it became?! no we really didn't, not until ioi started telling us 1 million week 1 was a possibility

SONY can yet have big guns next holiday, The Last Guardian is a  possibility, as theyr evealed it at E3 I think they want to really market it well this time (unlike what they did with the other team ico games). The agent is always looming as a possibility

Japan will probably have another FF iteration out, but the Western front looks barren at the moment. Maybe they will push GT5 into the Fall.

Thats a good point, Ps Motion, I actually don't know if they are bundling it with every system

they may make that bundle in the holidays to add extra value to PS3's

I would say the peak of PS3 sales will come between now and 6 months from now in terms of taking a singular 12 month period of the highest sales. They will not cut the price to $199 next year and I cannot see them taking more than $50 off the year after as they do need to reach a profitable compromise, that will only sustain sales which are lower than the current peak and probably no more than that.

I hate you darth! I was just working on a thread exactly the same as this... But with a poll!

I even had one tied down for each console... A complete money grabbing scheme!

Anyways... Taken from my now dead () and already buried thread -

Number of things the PS3 has going for it, and could have going for it -

  • New, affordable pricepoint that wasn't present in previous years.
  • High number of big exclusive and multiplat games releasing should keep momentum in Q1/Q2.
  • Now seen as a more suitable choice for Japanese gamers.
  • Gran Turismo 5 / God of War 3 Releasing (big spikes/boosts/bumps etc.)
  • Yet to drop below 240k worldwide since the pricecut and "slim".
  • PlayStation Wand takes off really well?
  • PlayStation Wand is bundled, adding value?
  • Possibility of colours?

OT: I think it could pull off 14-15mill by March 2011: end of the fiscal.
