Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii has it's biggest week ever (1.84 mil) and MK Wii passes 20 mil

Yep the biggest week Wii had before was 1.78 million in one week and last week (barring there are no adjustments) it beat this record with 1.84 million and is now the highest one week sales for a home console this gen.

And Mario Kart Wii has hit 20 million ( http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=6968 ) while it came back into the top 10 of worldwide sales and only about 500k sales away from the top ten all time selling games.

Yup.
Everybody tried to ignore this feat. The most important thing is "OMG another 900k+ week for PS3"

I wonder if in 12 months time we will be watching NSMBWii overtaking NSMB.

I am doubtful, but it will probably pass it eventually.

NSMB has been consistantly selling about 4 million each year, so will likely be about 25 million total this time next year. I don't think NSMBWii can sell the 16 million it would need to catch up.

Nice achievements.
But look at Wii Fit, if they never released Wii Fit+, it could have been nearly 30 million now, and possibly would have outsold SMB lifetime.
Now that was a true sales monster.

Yep and the single highest week ever for a home console. DS also had the single highest week ever for a handheld beating its own record.

Definitely some nice little milestones. Even further NSMB Wii became the fastest selling game ever 6 weeks on the market surpassing MW2 on the 360's current recrod which was barely above Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Nintendo definitely had a pretty damn good week.

You know, it is possible to celebrate the success of the Wii without getting defensive about other fans celebrating other successes. Saying things like this is just baiting.

On topic, now we know what the Wii sells like without supply constraints. I think it can do even better next holiday with a warmer economy and a stronger lineup. Or perhaps improved conditions will be hampered by market saturation...

Not to mention NSMB Wii is only about 200k away from topping Modern Warfare 2 on 360, even I thought that wasn't going to happen after the first week results, but Reggie might win that bet.

I think NSMBW has a decent chance hitting 23 million.

Easily.... By March 2011 it will be passing that mark me thinks... I think about 10-11 million in 2010, putting it at 19-20 million by January 1st 2011.

NSMB on the DS will have by that time sold an additional 4 million like it does every year, so will be at 24-25 million. And I think the last calendar quarter of 2011 will see NSMB Wii overtaking NSMB DS (both around 28 million by this time)

Good sales for the Wii is great news for high-definition console owners as well. It means we wont be seeing a PS4 or Xbox 720 upgrade for a loong time. Nintendo has demonstrated that having the most powerful console or critically acclaimed game lineup doesn't really equate to the most sales.
