Nintendo adopts unproven tech if it's cost effective enough. The motion controls show that to be true, and visuals can be too if they are first of next gen.

3D is about another 2X.

That's roughly 8X the compute performance. You can get about 2X the performance for the same price by waiting 2 years, so 6 years after launch of the Wii, they could come out with a 3D model for about the same price as the original Wii. So 2012 would make sense *IFF* the 360 and PS3 start to sell better than the Wii.

Well, Sony are starting to push the 3D thing...

Ninty will likely wait to see how it goes before making any big decisions. If it pays off for Sony, or starts to at least get popular, we could see it on the next Ninty console.

It could go further towards their immersion goals, if we added 3D to a total motion plus experience, for instance.

The question is how 3D could really go beyond just moar eye candy, and have impact on gameplay.

Yes, because they will not bet the bank on it, just like they didn't with motion controls.  They will only do it if it's affordable for them to produce the consoles.  Developers can still make regular low cost games, it's just an option.

The next Wii will incorporate some new technology, but it'll be something that your grandmother can use - just like the Wii's motion control idea.

i can see nintendo doing it , cuz with motion plus and 3d visuals , you cold really touch something in the air it wold be amazing but something tells me that nintendo will do something bigger , anyone remeber the holographical (did i spelled is right ?) patente thst should be used on the gamecube , i think that this is the next step for nintendo hologram in some level ...
