DLC sucks balls.
It's a fine idea, but the only games I can think of that have utilized it well and made it worth the extra cash are Rockstar with GTA4 and Bethesda with Fallout 3.
i hate it... people shouldnt buy any DLC for any game like me to send a message to publishers that we pay for a game just once... things that devs want to put after launch should be free to please the fans and bring more fans to the developer studio, and more sales to the disc game... games that want to live on pay DLC should have a different launch price point... LBP is one of those games... it should be cheap to buy at first so people can spend the leftovers in the metalgear and pirates level kits that brings so much more to the game... eye pet is another game like that... cheap to buy and fun to add DLC...

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4
I think that some people are forgetting that development costs are much higher than last gen and that publishers generate much less profit.
Now imagine there wouldn't be some guys who buy new costumes, weapons etc.
It's a great way for the companies to generate money without spending too much on developement.
Don't forget, you DON'T have to buy them if you don't like them, but if there were no DLC I could imagine that all publishers would raise the retail price for their games to make up for the money that was lost during the developement.
So either you pay $10 more at launch for EVERY game or you pay the same price and have option of paying some stuff later on.
