Forums - Sony Discussion - Uncharted 2 ? Over hyped ?

Uncharted 2 isn't overhyped at all. Mostly only PS3 owners know this game, and not even ALL PS3 Owners know this game exists! lol. Anyway, you wanna know what game is overhyped right this moment? look to COD: MW2. That is overhyped to my eyes. =]

A bit overhyped yes, but no too much

Gameplay is exactly the same as in Uncharted 1. It's just a bit longer and has multiplayer.

But hardly the game of the gen or something I hear so often from enthusiastic PS3 fans.

Disagree.

OT: Nope, I can't say that it is. I think it deserved all the hype it got. Then again, i don't really think many games are "overhyped", but some are overrated, in which case again, i don't think Uncharted 2 is one of them.

Care to explain what was different ?

Let's see:

A. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune had no stealth, at all.

B. The platforming, while pretty much the same, was more dynamic and frequent.

C. The way grenades are tossed was completely different.

For things to be "exactly the same", the game play would have to remain unchaenged. Uncharted 2 plays different than Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, though they are still very similar.

Reminds me of when people claimed Gears of War 2 was exactly the same as the first. It wasn't, the speed of the game alone made it feel different, even if it was similar to the first one.

A) Never tried stealth in the first game. Maybe it was possible, but because the game didn't hint it nobody actually tried it ?

It's not like you can beat the game without been seen at all. So yeah I correct myself the game is 95% identical gameplay wise.

B) As for the platforming parts, there were some chapters in the first game where you jumped and climbed more than in other chapters and I don't see the difference here. The platforming mechanics are the same.

C) Thank god they changed that, but honestly that's just saying the gameplay is totally different because they added a new weapon. It may be true, but that hardly makes any difference and should be besides that a standard for sequels.

Carl made a better point though. The change of the camera angle is a much better addition to the game than anything you said. (I guess that was what he meant with "aiming") I can't see how the cover mechanics or the shooting has improved though.

It's been a while since I've played Gears and Gears 2, but yeah AFAIR they were the same gameplay wise.

A) Stealth was not possible in the first

B) One giant addition to gameplay was the fact that you could shoot WHILE platforming. In the first there were two sections, shooting, and platforming. In the second they are mixed as well which changes up the game quite a lot.

C) Already been said

D) Melee Fighting system was switched up (though I liked the first games brutal combo better)

E) Cover Mechanics were improved to allow sliding into cover, knocking objects over to create cover, remaining in cover while turning corners(might be in the first but I never saw it happen)

I'm pretty sure I did that already in the first game.

Never used hand to hand combat in the first, because I think it sucks.

Anyway the differences are so minor that it doesn't matter A true change in gameplay can only be seen when playing Killzone 1 and then Killzone 2 afterwards or Burnout Revenge and then Burnout Paradise.

Uncharted series has the same gameplay, Gears of War series has the same gameplay, Call of Duty series the same gameplay and so on.

No, you didn't already do that in the first game.  You could hang from a ledge and shoot or lob grenades, or jump over cover, but I don't think that's considered platforming. In U2 you can swing from poles, climb buildings, jump across huge gaps, all while fighting enemies. U1 fights were very much restricted to the ground, you only climbed when no enemies were around.

Not using a game feature because you think it sucks doesn't mean it isn't a game feature...

I don't see how KZ1 to 2, and Burnout R to P are any different going by your logic...

Burnout Revenge:

- race selection screen
- several locations
- lap races
- 2 type of cars
- If you hit the traffic from behind, you get boost
- crash mode
- medal system

Burnout Paradise:

- Open world
- one location
- no lap races
- 3 different type of cars + bikes
- if you hit the traffic from behind you crash
- no real crash mode

See how they changed so many things ? And it's not like "yeah we tweak that a little and add something here" no. In many parts of the Paradise they did the exact opposite of what they did in Revenge.

It's a slightly overhyped, kinda forgettable game that has amazing graphics, and overall, I'd give it a 9/10. You've got to remember, exclusives are gonna be overhyped, always, and any game that innovates as little as Uncharted 2 does, probably isn't going to be many people's "best game of all time" no matter how good it is.

That said, the game oozes quality in design, and technical expertise. It's the Avatar of videogames. It's a popcorn flick....but it's the ULTIMATE popcorn flick....still doesn't make it comparable to Godfather II, but remember, popcorn flicks are the most popular films, so you are going against the tide when you claim dissapointment. Most people want exactly what this game has to offer, and you, like myself, are probably in a niche of gamers who prefer games like Radiant Dawn and Valkyria Chronicles, to titles like Galaxy 2 and Uncharted 2.

I love playing those niche games too, but I must say I need a solid action game here and there and both the Uncharted's have delievered exactly what I asked for, the sequel improving the formula to make the game that much more enjoyable.

Oh, don't get me wrong, lol, I still give Uncharted a 9.0, and I loved it. It's not exactly my favorite type of game though, and I've even heard one guy ask "Can Uncharted 2 save gaming?"

I wasn't aware gaming needed to be saved....

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

No, it's a game that actually delivers. And to the people calling it a mere 'popcorn flick' what game isn't? No game these days reinvents the wheel. They only make incremental improvements on already established ways of playing.

When I call it "popcorn gaming" I don't mean that it doesn't innovate(it doesn't though). I mean that it is really a "ride." You don't have to be very intricate or clever, and you don't have to work to hard to get the full enjoyment and experience of it.

Also, I'm not an Uncharted 2 hater, I just have a hard time putting it in the same league as Fallout 3, Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger, and MGS4, and I don't see how anyone could call it their favorite game of all time. :P

Just a little.....but hyping things is fun! How often have you left a movie theater and said "that was the best movie ever!" or heard a song and said "that's the best singer ever"! U2 isn't as good as some say it is, but it's pretty damned good and it delivers. $60 well spent.

A lot of people like to talk about UC2 singleplayer without giving one nod to the multiplayer. IMO, the MP is better than 99% of anything on the market.

Everyone always forgets about that.

Its different hyping things from personal experience rather than something from a video on the internet. I say a games gotta have legs! Without legs, it aint goin nowhere. I aint pushin' around no crippled game, I aint!

Tease.
