Forums - Nintendo - Wii's EXCLUSIVE RPG

For the RPG list, Media Vision (Wild Arms) are working on a Wii-exclusive RPG.

Also Camelot said they've cancelled their Wii RPG at the moment, but did say they're looking to bring Golden Sun back in the future. however, nothing is currently in development.

Finally, Monolith's DS RPG is called Soma Bringer and looks pretty good, albeit with very little media avaliable at the moment.

I'd say it's a pretty solid list, I'm going to guess the best is yet to come though. I mean, Square Enix generate about 80% of their income in Japan. How can they only have 3 proper games set for release on the Wii, with 2 of them being extremely nishe and basic :/. Time shall tell I guess.

I guess you can add Dragon Quest Swords too?

What does everybody hate about FF 12 so much? I'd rather have FF X-2 and a PS2 than any next gen games out right now.

 Pros

  • Great voice acting
  • Looked great
  • Really made the player feel like they were playing an MMO
  • Gambit system was a great start at making a new battle system standard

Cons

  • There was no reason to care about the characters
  • The story wasn't interesting and horribly cliche
  • Most of the characters had no reason to be there
  • I've seen all the characters in previous FF games just under different names
  • While the gambit system was a good start, getting gambits was a pain and by the time you got the good ones you just didn't care
  • The license system was the worst leveling/equipment/spell system I've ever seen-- there was no reason not to make any character different.
  •  A good 15 hours into the game and you're still telling yourself it must get good soon.
  • They introduce and take away I don't remember how many characters in the first 30 minutes.  By the time I got the main character I wasn't sure if I was going to keep him or get someone else in five minutes.
  • You didn't actually begin playing the game until about 15-20 minutes into it.
  • The difficulty curve was nonexistent
I could go on but no point in derailing a thread further.

I think when MH3 comes out next year, the Wii will be golden in Japan. Nintendo can ride the MH3 hype until then. Afterwards they will release info on their own project. I have really high hopes for this game from Matsuno.

You forgot the worst one twesterm:

Vaan. My god he was awful. He was a whiny little girl and I never figured out why he was the main character. He rarely had an opinion on what the party should do and even when he did he wasn't listened to. His motivation was completely nonexistent and what little personality he had was so annoying you just wanted to punch him every time he talked. By far the worst main FF character ever created.

Did you not play CC on the GC? Because it was actually an enjoyable game. The new ones look much better, and each one has some really interesting and unique gameplay ideas. tYPatPL actually looks like it's meant to be a modern day reincarnation of Actraiser with online co-op. Which is nothing short of awesome.

Monster Hunter 3 not being a big name does not make it a bad game. The PS2 games are both solid RPGs. Even if they are insanely difficult. King's Story looks lame? You sir have no soul! Come on, cutesy art doesn't make it a bad game. If that were true no one would have ever played Katamari. It's being made by some incredible developers and the basis of the game is brilliant.

Oboro, like Odin Sphere (don't know if you played this or not) is an Action RPG. I agree it's as much action as RPG, but I'm not just listing turn based games here... Same with Fire Emblem. It's a type of RPG.

I agree we don't know much about Monster Lab and Sword of Legendia yet, but Monster Lab at least has an interestingn premise and the screenshots have an interesting art style. As choirs said it's still too early for these games to have much buzz.

Obviously not all games are good, but considering 3rd party opinions of the Wii it's not looking too shabby. Certainly the best early RPG list on a Nintendo system since the SNES.

Oh I forgot, Skies of Arcadia sequel is being made by Sega and latest rumors say it's on the Wii.

I played CC for a little while, I wasn't impressed.  Of course, perhaps it's worth a retry these days.  Separate what it is from what I remember it to be and all that.

Monster Hunter 3 will be a mixed bag I think.  Oboro reminds me of RBO.  Perhaps there needs to be a division in types of RPGs.  Any game with a story and a hero could be an RPG by the loosest definition after all.

I love RPGs so I want to be excited about the Wii's RPG list, but the problem is that there are no new titles that are really grabbing my attention yet.  Sword of Legendia (NAMCO) may have the best chance at it but we'll see.

CC was enjoyable if you had other people to play it with, otherwise it got pretty stale pretty quick. I played mainly SP and it just couldn't do a lot to keep my attention. When I did play it with buddies it was a blast but since I had already moved out of the dorms and my room mate wasn't much into games I didn't get to play multiplayer much so yeah, not that great for me at least.

Good lord, the FFXII bandwagon makes no stops. It's like reading the same thread everyday. The worst part about this fascination is that it's now seeping over FFXII and this rumored RPG which may or may not even exist is already getting bashed to little pieces just from the bloodthirsty users that flip out at the sight of "Matsuno."

It's starting to turn into GameFAQs, where instead it's FFX-2 bashing. All day. Everyday.

"Hey guys, did you see that new Super Mario Galaxy vid-"

"FFX-2 SUKS!"

"But no one was even talking ab-"

"U SUX 2 BCUZ U LIEK FFX-2"

"I've never even pla-"

"WERST GAME EVR"

*500 post topic about why FFX-2 sucks on Mario Galaxy board*

Did everyone miss the DS RPG announcements Nintendo made at their media summit? Lots of details on 'Vision Red', including screenshots and more - plus another 2 (3?) RPGs?

(or is this about something different?)

Link and link.

@WoW

CC actually hade a pretty good story. I thought it was a good game overall. But TCB looks TONS better IMO.

Righty, can't find a link to them saying they're no longer doing a Wii RPG, but they're definitely not doing Golden Sun at the moment. I guess we can hope the Camelot RPG still exsists for now :P. http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200710/N07.1009.1738.03309.htm?Page=3
