Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will Final Fantasy XIII get a rating over 90%?

it will get propably a more than 90 for ps3 and like an 88 or 89 for 360

I would like for the game to be a complete failure so when they release versus it can be way better

I'll be honest- I'd love to see the game flop, and I like the range that Seraphic gave it for the scores. But being realistic, it'll do better than that. I do think that it will fall short of 90, but just short; it'll probably be in the realm of 88-89. After all, this game will cater to what many of the "professional reviewers" like to see. But if I'm wrong, and it does fail, then good. I think that S-E needs the wake-up call.

....can someone explain why so many of you are hoping this game will fail?

Because pepole don't want a battle system when we control one character, we want an ATB/CTB battle system, with a varied way to level up our characters.
Because pepole don't want a tunnel for a world, we want world maps and we want airships and we want cities and towns and optional dungeons and sidequests.
Because pepole want a good plot, not something like 12 with a main character that sucks (I think Lightning's gonna end up cool though), and a friend of mine have read 13's script and said that it is incredibly generic.

We want FF to become a good JRPG series again, we don't want this shit MMO/Westernized feel to our games, we don't want to see one of the greates series in the history of gaming keep declining to irrelevancy, you may think that 12 was a good game, but face the fact that most of us don't, and that most of us want to see this game failing, so that Square realize that they can't shit on their fanbase and actually have to try again.

(That is, if the game does indeed suck, if it's good ignore what i've just said :P )

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Heh, Lightning's really the only character in the game that I like.(makes me glad that she's the one pictured on my PS3) Everybody else is either so-so or annoying. The worst(and most annoying) character is the damn kid, hope. I just want to slap him upside the head (most of the time)...

considering the fact that FFXIII on japanese version of gamerankings have average score "D" i would say that even with the hype, HDish of the game(to most reviewers the fact that something is on hd platform guarantee 8/10 already) and Final Fantasy name it will have 80-85/100(which is pretty sad since from what i heard it's not even a jrpg or a game to begin with)

It's a JRPG and a darn good one at that. Most of the things people are complaining about are things the past games had or things that actually make the game better anyway, I don't see how this game won't get over 90%. Won't be any lower than 88 for sure. This game is pretty similar to Final Fantasy X, and X was my favorite, and its a lot of peoples favorite.

considering the fact that average review score in japan right now is about 38/100 i doubt that.
no, most of the complaints are about:
non existing difficulty level,
batles that you always win by simply choosing autobattles and tapping X all the time(and even by playing them it's always about just attacking since you don't have any control over your team mates apparently),
extremely linear gameplay and level design,
almost non existing sidequests for 3/4 of the game,
no shops in the game except those at save points and there's nothing really to buy,
hardly any town in the game,
you can't avoid battles(basically you fight every monster you meet),

really bad story and awful use of jrpg antics,

whole pacing in the game is basically: run through corridor-like level -> fight monster -> watch movie -> run through corridor-like level -> fight monster -> watch movie -> run through corridor-like level -> watch movie -> fight boss -> watch movie.

Trust me I feel the same, I buy a JRPG to be a JRPG, not some gimped WRPG in disguise, even western WRPGs do a better job of the battle system and SE need to take notice of how it is done properly.

it's the future of handheld

Why can't they just do like the old days?? it works for DQ why not for FF?? forget the western world if the games have the sales as DQ does they won't need to sell that much in the west.
