I like how carl managed to throw in the PS1 and maybe the PS2 back catalog in for the PS3, but ignored the original Xbox for the 360 entirely.

Because it had 24 RPG's, with only 4/5 worth mentioning... So it was pretty pointless.

Compare that to the 178 on PS1, and the 251 on PS2... Yes?

And for someone who hates JRPGs and loves WRPGs, just about all of the 251 titles on the PS2 are pointless, so I still don't see how you can ignore the original Xbox.

Because i was backing up the PS3, not the 360?

I'm really surprised the XBox360 is lagging so far behind in votes. It's what I voted for, but on second thought, I probably should have voted for the DS if you disregard preference for JRPG vs WRPG.

I'm a little confused about why the PS3 is getting so many votes though. I mean, yea, there's Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3. And the (from reviews) mediocre White Knight Chronicles. And...well, that's probably about it. It could change in the future, but based on what's been released, the PS3 is lagging way behind the other consoles.

Meanwhile the XBox360 has Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia (only on PS3 in Japan), The Last Remnant, Mass Effect 1/2, Fable 2, Divine Divinity 2, Risen, Two Worlds, and probably others. Yes, some of those are mediocre or even poor, but the XBox360 RPG library is still far stronger than the PS3 RPG library.

It proves how subjective these polls are. The 360 may have MORE RPGs, but people may think the quality of some of them are sub-par when comparing them with the PS3's. But, as I said, that's one way of looking at it. There are no right/wrong answers on this one, just a compilation of opinions on a poll.

It just so happens that the DS and PS3 are receiving the brunt of those votes. Whether the votes are sincere/biased/tainted, nobody can prove. Therefore, it's pointless to debate over it.

Oh believe me, I think Demon's Souls is better than every XBox360 game combined.  Ok, that's an exaggeration, but seriously, I love Demon's Souls, and would gladly take that over Mass Effect (which I own on the PC).  And Valkyria Chronicles is one of the best SRPGs ever.  I love that game too.  I'd take it over every JRPG exclusive the XBox360 has (personally not a big fan of JRPGs).

But looking at things as objectively as possible, I really have to wonder why so many people think that the PS3 is the best RPG console.  If I were to recommend either the PS3 or XBox360 to someone, without any knowledge of their preferences for games other than that they like RPGs, I would have to recommend the XBox360 over the PS3.  If someone doesn't like Demon's Souls (hack'n'slash RPG) or Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles (SRPGs), then they are screwed, even if I thought they were some of the best RPGs this gen.  Whereas on the XBox360, if they don't like Tales of Vesperia (action RPG), then maybe they would like Lost Odyssey (turn based RPG).  Or maybe Infinite Undiscovery.  Or maybe a WRPG like Divine Divinity 2 or Risen.  And there's still Mass Effect and Fable 2.  Hell, they might even like Too Human.

Kowenicki is telling the truth about Sony bias in these polls.

So if the poll said anything else that would make it more valid? Pretty much if anything on this site ends up in favor of Sony and/or the PS3 we automatically declare it tainted?

Not everything but most of it.

The population ratio here is 4:1 in favor of Sony over Xbox, so of course there's a huge component of bias in all polls.

Yep it's true that the Pro-Sony population overwhelms the Pro-Xbox population here in number. Remember that "which company is your favorite console manufacturer?" poll on vgchartz? SONY got a huge chunk of the vote. Much more than Nintendo (2nd place) and Microsoft (3rd place). So I'm not surprised with these poll results.

stop being senseless... Hd systems have like 5 rpg each when ds has 100...

DS might have 100 "rpg:s" but 360 needs only 2 rpg:s to beat the entire DS library. ME (2) and Dragon age: origins >>>>> everything ds has to offer.

Thank you carl, for giving me the perfect example of bias. It is obviously not something that can be eliminated, as per the human error equation. It can be minimized, but this shows that some people don't even try. If one were to attempt to be unbiased, then it would require an objective look at things, that is, not backing one particular system. If one clearly disregards something on one system while acknowledging (and surmising, in the case of PS2) it on another, that is bias.

So step back. Different people will see different things. I can see people voting for the 360 because of the best mix of JRPG and WRPG. I can see people voting for the DS (like I did) for the sheer number of games. I can see Wii for those who like the old-style JRPGs that are on the VC. Then we get down to the PSP/PS3. Both can play the PS1 classics from PSN, so that leaves no sway. So it comes to the native games, of which there are more on the PSP, and I could even see the PSP getting votes in general for the sheer number and ratio of SRPGs on it.

So I can't really see the PS3 from how I'm looking. I'm not saying that there are no good RPGs for it (Demon's Souls is an amazing game), just that the numbers and total quality seem to be eclipsed by other systems. Twisting my view, I can see people picking the PS3 on a different clause- the access to the entire PS1 library (though I still think the DS one is better). But there are fewer outlets to buy PS1 games, so if you start looking at OOP system games, then you also have to fairly look at XBox for the 360, GBA for the DS (and actually, some stores do still have used GBA games), and GC for the Wii. PS2 games should not be looked at because someone who is looking to buy a system for RPGs can not walk into a store and buy a PS3 capabe of playing PS2 games.

Then we have the other argument I've seen used- the... "less scrupulous..." means. I do know emulation of most of the older systems exists on every system except the PS3. (I'm not sure if it has been found to play NES games, etc, on the PS3 or not, if so, then all the more moot the point is.) If you're going to look at one system for doing it (which seems to be high among PC and PSP fans), then you need to look at all that are capable. And at that point, you've washed them all into nothing, as they're all doing it.

And so is why we don't see many throughly objective views on the votes here. Some of the the votes do get enough thought to make a decent decision, but the others are voted on through sheer bias. Such is the fallacy of humans, and also explains why you see that little line about them not being scientific surveys at some sites. I just find it a shame to see such a lean here toward the bias, and not the thoughtful votes. Again, I'm not saying that every PS3 vote is through bias, but there are some that clearly are.

Too much to read, so im just gonna reply to the red bit.

Read the conversation me and kowen were having, and you will see why i was backing up just the PS3.

I had more fun playing TWEWY, Soma Bringer, Bowser's Inside Story and Devil Survivor than playing Dragon Age on my PC. Sure Dragon Age has much more depht, but if you will have fun with the game or not will depend of your taste.

Also, I prefer any DQ on the DS than Dragon Age (PC version, I don't know about the x360 or ps3 version) just because of the storyline and difficulty. All I can say about Dragon Age is that it's an incredible game but it was boring for me.

So can you play those multiplats on DS or what is your point? How about ME on any of the other platforms on this poll?
