Thank you carl, for giving me the perfect example of bias. It is obviously not something that can be eliminated, as per the human error equation. It can be minimized, but this shows that some people don't even try. If one were to attempt to be unbiased, then it would require an objective look at things, that is, not backing one particular system. If one clearly disregards something on one system while acknowledging (and surmising, in the case of PS2) it on another, that is bias. So step back. Different people will see different things. I can see people voting for the 360 because of the best mix of JRPG and WRPG. I can see people voting for the DS (like I did) for the sheer number of games. I can see Wii for those who like the old-style JRPGs that are on the VC. Then we get down to the PSP/PS3. Both can play the PS1 classics from PSN, so that leaves no sway. So it comes to the native games, of which there are more on the PSP, and I could even see the PSP getting votes in general for the sheer number and ratio of SRPGs on it. So I can't really see the PS3 from how I'm looking. I'm not saying that there are no good RPGs for it (Demon's Souls is an amazing game), just that the numbers and total quality seem to be eclipsed by other systems. Twisting my view, I can see people picking the PS3 on a different clause- the access to the entire PS1 library (though I still think the DS one is better). But there are fewer outlets to buy PS1 games, so if you start looking at OOP system games, then you also have to fairly look at XBox for the 360, GBA for the DS (and actually, some stores do still have used GBA games), and GC for the Wii. PS2 games should not be looked at because someone who is looking to buy a system for RPGs can not walk into a store and buy a PS3 capabe of playing PS2 games. Then we have the other argument I've seen used- the... "less scrupulous..." means. I do know emulation of most of the older systems exists on every system except the PS3. (I'm not sure if it has been found to play NES games, etc, on the PS3 or not, if so, then all the more moot the point is.) If you're going to look at one system for doing it (which seems to be high among PC and PSP fans), then you need to look at all that are capable. And at that point, you've washed them all into nothing, as they're all doing it. And so is why we don't see many throughly objective views on the votes here. Some of the the votes do get enough thought to make a decent decision, but the others are voted on through sheer bias. Such is the fallacy of humans, and also explains why you see that little line about them not being scientific surveys at some sites. I just find it a shame to see such a lean here toward the bias, and not the thoughtful votes. Again, I'm not saying that every PS3 vote is through bias, but there are some that clearly are. |
Too much to read, so im just gonna reply to the red bit.
Read the conversation me and kowen were having, and you will see why i was backing up just the PS3.
