Forums - Sales - Did MW2 360 move more consoles in US than FF13 PS3 movein Japan?

I got that from this link.

http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5798

Then I read this little tidbit inside.

With the latest news that the promotion is expected to continue through to the 15th November, we expect that sales will be higher still next week, especially with the launch of Modern Warfare 2 tomorrow.

I am confused, take a look at  this graph

You have a sales jump of 90,000 for the US in a week in November

While you have a 170,000 jump for PS3 in Japan in a week. And we can even see it compared to similair time last year.
Your assumption makes very little sense either percentage wise or physical total wise according to that graph.

Would you like to flesh it out a bit?

EDIT: Note for referance release date for MW2 - 11/10/09

I am using NPD's numbers and going by statements from both Microsoft and Sony.  I really enjoy this site but I know it's relatively young compared to other tracking services and is still getting some kinks out of it's methodology and likely working on making more retail contacts.  One thing I do get from public statements is that it seemed like Microsoft was quiet about its hardware sales (something it doesn't usually do unless it's behind) and suddenly things changed after the release of MW2.

So the increase in 360 sales in November were primarily because of MW2, not the Walmart deal and Black Friday?

Choosing to ignore everything I just posted? O_o

Also Microsoft wasn't quiet about their numbers before MW2 launch, they were quiet about their numbers for Black Friday week. If however they did boast about their MW2 week numbers read everything I already posted for you and you will see why sales actually jumped.

Maybe someone from VGChartz that helps with the numbers can comment on roughly how many MW2 360 bundles they think have been sold in NA.

You could send a PM to The Source and/or ioi. They would be the only ones who could really answer that for you.

Also for those mentioning the Wal-Mart deal, did it cover the MW2 360 bundle?

ps3 360 battle will always be unfair until that have the same price

True but that doesn't get down to the core of the argument that sequels in a series that have appeared on a console don't generally move much hardware. The PS3 got a price cut in Japan prior to the FF13 bundle as did the 360 in the US (albeit only at some stores and only temporarily) so it likely all evens out.

Uncharted 2 is a sequel and moved hardware.

If this is about people saying that sequels can't move hardware I will agree with you that they indeed can move hardware.

However I am almost positive that MW2 did not move more HW for the 360 in the US than FFXIII did for the PS3 in Japan.

As for your other question, no the Walmart deal only applied to the $200 Arcade. You buy the Arcade for $200 and you get a $100 Walmart gift card.

I am not even sure if we have a solid number on the amount of MW2 Bundled sold.

You think majority of that weeks sales were $400 MW2 bundles and not $99 Arcades?
