It is okay. At least we are being true.... to ourselves.
I thought it would do well especially is Japan and the US but was very unsure about others. I always thought Nintendo should do another 2D mario especially looking at Super Mario 64, and Sunshine. Galaxy is a superb game though, probably my favorite game this generation, I don't know why it hasn't sold better than it has.

If we look at non GBA/DS remakes released world wide, only 1 title sold worse than the worst selling 3D Mario, yet the best selling 3D Mario only beat the 4th worst selling 2D Mario. New Super Mario Bros DS should have shown everyone that 2D Mario sells like hotcakes. The only "poor" selling 2D Mario games are SMW2, which had baby Mario and launched after the PlayStation released, and Super Mario Bros 2, which was previously released in Japan under Doki Doki Panic and was drastically different than any other 2D mario released. If you look at the remakes and rereleases, they landed in the 2-6m range. People love 2D platfomers.
So, with that information, I don't see why anyone shouldn't have expected New Super Mario Bros Wii to outsell Super Mario Galaxy. However, I can see how people wouldn't have expected it to sell as fast as it has.

I almost took it off my list too... Notch another victory for 2D Mario
KylieDog said: Yes I did. I would use the reasoning it is underporming its potential but it is made by Nintendo and has Mario platforming so that doesn't matter and and people buy it for those reasons alone, not even looking at the content, they could have filed him into a single square screen with just a '?' block and nothing else and it would sell, but I'm not sure that is allowed. I'll use the reasoning that The Wiis software line-up for the last 18 months has been pretty terrible compared to when Galaxy released so expected it to sell through lack of competition. Considering how fast it is selling compared to Galaxy I'll say this was a good guess. |
"Reason for ban: Trolling (Baiting by saying how you would troll, then basically trolling saying the Wii's lineup has been "pretty terrible" the past 18 months.) ~ MaxwellGT2000 [3005657]"
The first paragraph was a joke at how mad some 2D Mario fans are. Is why I posted a real reason in the second paragraph, to make it clear I was messing about. Plenty of people making 'such' jokes and aren't banned for it because it is meant to be a joke and isn't serious, I'm gonna name Rol as a repeat offender.
I never said the Wii's line up was 'pretty terrible either' either. I said "pretty terrible compared to when Galaxy released". That does not mean it was bad, it means it is bad by comparison. If you come second place in a contest and win £10,000, but the first plce prize was £100,000, it doesn't mean the £10k is bad, but in comparison to the 100k it is. See?
Just posting this because you are seemingly looking and wanting to see trolling where it simply does not exist. I'd like to think you are reasonable and admit a mistake/remove ban but if not, oh well. I'm not gonna use this Motherbrain account again after this post.

Even still, I thought Galaxy had showcased how much Mario was going to sell on Wii. I never actually looked at this chart but it deffinitley makes the point. I mean there's more games in the 2d category yet average sales are TWICE as high. I figured it would outsell it if it was as critically acclaimed as Galaxy, and possibly get help by Wii's growing user base. BUT to pass it this fast? The game is easily going to double Galaxy in sales by the looks of it.
It was an easy call. With the DS's version performing so well, it was obvious.
