Forums - Sony Discussion - The PSP Go was a MAJOR flop. We need to talk about it.

Going all digital is fine, it's worked with the iPhone so far. Sony needs a PSP Phone. Whats the point of being download only, if I can't download from anywhere? Needing a Wifi connection to download is limiting

Compare the PSPGo to the iPhone, and the difference is clear. For $199 you get an MP3 player, movie player, 100,000 apps, Phone, Videogame Player, GPS device, touchscreen, etc.

The PSPGo cost $249, you get an mp3, video player, and you get to play games. But first you have to convert the video into something ridiculous.

They need to leverage the PSN the way Apple has leveraged iTunes. I mean, Sony owns music and movie studios!! Combine that with the excellent first party games, and I'm not sure why their not raking in the cash. Oh yeah...they make stupid pricing points and confining propriatory connections.

Seriously, Sony's proprietory plugins and sd-cards need to END! I've avoided a lot of their cameras due to the proprietary stuff. Geez, what are these guys thinking?

Personally, as odd and off the wall as it sounds - I think Sony should partner with RIM to bring push email and BBmessenger to a PSP, and the Go should also be a phone. Ofc a little redesign needed etc, but in principle I agree that is the direction they should have gone if they wanted to charge more for a DL-only devivce.

Heck, I would consider trading my Blackberry for a PSP if that happened - as long as Sony managed to cook up a decent product. I would love to have a smartphone that I could play real games on.  Maybe I am a minority though, I have no idea since I am not really into the mobile gaming scene.

ive heard rumors of a psp phone, that would be awesome. my iphone recently decided it didnt want to evver turn on again so im out $300, and if i could add 3g network to my psp. omg i would never get rid of it.

@almcchessney: It was already stated a dozen times by Sony, that they aren't making a PSP phone. The reason is pretty simple: half of the revenue from the software would go to Ericsson.

Sony messed up the go, i agree. I ended up buying one because i broke my ipod. And i ended up falling in love with it. Sure it could have been cheeper, but it's definitely the premium PSP experience. The controls, while awkward at first, fell better. it's much smaller than the original PSP. I'd recommend it over an ipod, or to Anyone who finds $250 in the street.

PSPGo was a waste of money and development time for Sony.PSPGo gets no advertisements.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

PSP still seems to be selling quite well, 450,000 last week (19th). I may end up buying a PSPgo, I've never had a regular PSP so I don't care about umds. Portability and battery life is more of a factor for me. I have a PS3 and the remote play sounds interesting, and i've downloaded lots of games from PSN for the PS3, so I'm used to the 'no physical media'. The price seems high, but I've seen them at Fry's for $199, and Dell had them for $210 shipped. My point is: people who already have a PSP might not like the upgrade path of the PSPGO, they can't use their old games/accessories, but a new comer like myself might prefer the lighter GO.

@Uruler: You need to hone your marketing lines a little.

Next time try "i like it a lot" instead of "premium PSP experience" and leave the iPod part out, it's a little too obvious.

The PSP Go is hilarious. I just knew it would flop so badly the second I saw that Thing. Sony has been making some just awful choices this generation.

psp go was an experiment just like psx was back at 2002/2003.i think the reason of its existance was to persuade developers distribute psp games through ps store.so when the next psp launches there will be plenty of content in playstation store to support it,since it wont have a umd drive

if they actually wanted it to sell at that price they should have added a lot of other feautures, like a videocamera,fm radio, and hugely increased battery life(sth like 12h so it could make a difference compared to psp-3000).........ooh and improve the wi-fi antenna.then it would sell like hotcakes(support for divx/mkv would boost sales hugely also)

Yes the PSPgo was a bad choice by Sony. The system itself is not bad, its the price, for another 50 bucks you can have a PS3 . They need to lower the price to give it a chance or cancel the thing. I have a regular PSP and I love it, my son loves it, really no need for another PSP anyway.

Yeah i want it to play my old umd's and more gb's.
