Forums - Gaming Discussion - How strong is your nostalgia?

Something I've been thinking about

(Example)

People love Super Mario Bros. 3. I understand the best game you played doesnt have to be your favorite but some people refuse to admit their favorite game isnt the best in the series.

Ocarina of Time is my favorite game of all time and I think there hasnt been a better Zelda since Ocarina of Time. This isnt due to my nostalgia or love for the game. I truly believe it to be the best Zelda.

Super Mario World is my favorite Mario game BUT I admit that Super Mario Galaxy is the best Mario game. Im not blinded by nostalgia or my love for the old game I admit this is the best in the series.

So does your nostalgia blind you?

Super Mario 64 is the best mario game. That's a fact. :P

not really, I like and appreciate older games, but most of my favorite games are from the last 2/3 generations, though I guess I'm not really old enough to be nostalgic bout much yet

Nope, and im glad.

Ocarina of time isn't my favourite its majora's mask.
and im glad because Nostalgia ruins the fun that i would have for new games, like AC2 im really loving it now, nostalgia is nostalgia, they're memories, they effect my taste in music though.

I live for the burn...and the sting of pleasure...
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

- Wasteland - The Mission.

Been playing games since 1982, my fave game of all time is from 2000 (Shenmue).

So nostalgia doesn't play a part for me with regards to my fave game ever.

It's going to take somthing truly special to move Shenmue from my number 1 spot.

Also many franchises this gen have joined my fave franchises of yesteryear.

Old franchise love (Sonic, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Resident evil, Jet Set Radio ect)

New franchise love (Dead Rising, Condemned, Left 4 Dead, Gears of War, Crackdown ect)

I don't factor nostalgia as a reason to prefer older generation of games to current generation games, it's all about how you percieve each individual game and how it has affected or shaped your gaming life whatsoever.

My favourite list of games ranges throughout all generations, genres and consoles, because each has given me a piece of gaming that I didn't thought possible before playing them.

My favourite game of all time is Lufia 2, but I also consider Parasite Eve, Diablo 2, Gran Turismo 4 and, most recently, Demon's Souls, to be the epitome of gaming for me.

my nostalgia died long ago, when i turned 20 i realized being attrached to something thats isn't evolving will only slow me down.

Mario Galaxy was excellent, but even I felt dizzy playing it sometimes. Mario World was excellent though, and I can't really think of anything bad about it. Mario 64 had some camera problems, but again it was excellent.

Zelda Link to the Past was my favourite of the Zelda series, that definitely won't change. Ocarina of Time best part was the horseman through the glass mirror, the rest was boring, bland and really showed the limitations of the cartridge format for me - no scenary etc..nothing to do.

Shenmue had great music and was interesting to play, but I thought it suffered from bad fighting mechanics.

But.. each person enjoys there game for many different reasons, such as the first game they played in the series etc..

I say each to there own.

I think there are more nostalgic members on this website than they are willing to admit. NSMB Wii appealed to their nostalgia greatly, some even called it "innovative" and revolutionary, and even though I may not agree, there are many others who share my opinion.

Personally, I am not very nostalgic when it comes to video games. There are games I love to death, but I eventually move on.

I'm definately not blinded by nostalgia. I grew up with the N64, but can still enjoy games that are much older than that

I LOVE ICELAND!
