Forums - General - Your One And Only Idol. (Music / Art / Writing ....ect)

Ah, I think I know now where your (new) user name comes from (Dead Can Dance?).
BTW, I bought "Deep" when it came out. It's the only Peter Murphy album I own, "Cuts Yuo Up" is a fantastic song, but overall I prefer David Sylvian over Murphy.
(Sylvian and Murphy never worked together afaik, but they have similar backgrounds as lead singers/writers of legendary 70s avantgarde bands and they're somehow connceted as Mick Karn was Japan's bassist and worked with Murphy on their one album project Dali's Car).

OT: I don't have an idol. I never admire the person, I always admire the work.
I could easily list hundreds of artists from classical composers to soundtrack composers, from solo musicians to duets to bands, from screenplay writers to movie directors to actors/actresses, whose work I admire, but none of them is my idol. (Noticed something? I don't read books).

If I had to name three artists though, whose work I admire the most, it would most probably be J.S. Bach, Miles Davis and Charlie Chaplin.

yes, its from Dead Can Dance, i really love their music, they're pretty unique and atmospheric, i was more than happy when Bauhaus covered their song, so happy that i uploaded it on youtube.

i used to not have an idol, but David's personality is really amazing, that doesn't mean i'd copy him, but its just an inspiration, everyone did bad things even him and im not going to copy that like a fanboy does

I'm not so sure if this really fits in with the theme of this thread..

But I do look up to a certain type of people, oh and a game I played had that type of people in it. Well, let's see, it's Final Fantasy X. It's Rikku ^^

I've mostly been that dude that hasn't really had some kind of self esteem, like ever..
I'm almost never happy, and I'm certainly not full of energy. That's why I love Rikku (well since this is a gaming forum, I say Rikku.. if it weren't a gaming forum, I would mention a girl I know, that's awfully a lot like Rikku) Oh damn now I said it -.-

Okey, the reason I made Rikku my idol, is because I want to become like that. You know the guy that's always happy, full of sparkling energy and doesn't ever give up.. Well, I'm not that kinda guy, and that's why I envy those who are, a lot. Just like Rikku.

This is my story (see what I did there? >.>)

I couldn't name just one, so the following have all informed me for the better I believe:

- Stanley Kubrick
- JG Ballard
- Rene Magritte
- David Bowie (the early years of course!)
- Carl Sagan
- Philip K Dick
- Harlan Ellison
- Peter Gabriel

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

yeah, i know what you are trying to say, while fictional some characters can be made as an inspiration. heck alot of people do it.

There's a brazillian writer called Machado de Assis(is he famous in US and EU as well? I really don't know) and his books makes me want write. He wrotes load of stories and romances. His masterpieces are Dom Casmurro and The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas. I really admire him and his depth when describing society and making awesome character.

every person in existance have an idol, no one can deny it.

Probably true in some form, but not in the one you're thinking.

I have a grand amount of people who have inspired me in some shape or form, little or much. Hell, some of them are on these forums.

But there are only two people in the world who I really aspire to learn from and seek inspiration from. My parents. I don't have any celebrity or artist who inspire me to do certain things, I just have my upbringing. It has shaped me into who I am, and I like myself and my own ideals. My parents are the driving force behind who I am, and all of the rules by which I live my daily life, and I love them for what they have done and continue to do.

That is all
