Whatever it is, I'm probably not going to be interested in it.
In fact, I'd probably only be interested in it at this point if it WAS a FFVII remake. Cuz at this point, all the other stuff he's been connected to has been going down the 'milk' train. And he needs to stop and work on one thing for a while. And FFVII was already a game that was rushed and needed to be fixed. Its a perfect fit for both of them. One project he can settle down on and work on for a good 2-3 years and calm down.

Compared to what they use to do (Mana, Chrono, Mission, Saga, Blade, original games, etc), three series is pretty pathetic. Also, before anyone jumps on my back, yes, they still do release a few games from those series, but pretty much the three series have completely overtaken them and they are nowhere near as big or as good as before. Where's a good Mana game or where's the focus on Front Mission? And where's a good original game aside from just being published by SquareEnix?
Pretty much SquareEnix has become a machine of pumping out these three series. And not even that. The Dragon Quest team is doing pretty good at quality control and keeping its series low key (only 1-2 releases a year). Wheras we have like 2-4 Kingdom Hearts games a year and god knows how many Final Fantasy games a year (anywhere from 9-15).

Including FF7?

No, my point is they should focus on making NEW games. I don't want a remake of FF7! I don't want a rerelease of FF6! I want new content. And yes, I stand corrected. I did forget about FFXIV. |
In that issue I agree with you, I stated on previous similar threads that S-E shouldn't bother with more FF remakes, it would be better if they focused their resources into making new content, but I also can see on how a remake can interest lots of fans out there, especially those who haven't got the chance to play the game before or just don't bother to play it now, because, let's be frank, FFVII hasn't exactly aged well.
I would enjoy if this was the announcement for KH3 much more if it was a FFVII remake announcement, but either way, it will be a win-win scenario, at least for me ;)

What needs to be fixed about FFVII? It was pretty polished for it's time. The problem is it was too ambituous for the programming tech at the time.
It aged horribly. It needs a remake more than any other final fantasy does. 8 and 9 are fine. all the previous ones have their 8 and 16 bit charm, but 7 is just plain ugly.
Once again I want a Chrono Trigger 2, or maybe not, a sequel would ruin the story (chrono cross was a sequel?, it sucked)
... or people were secretely requesting Mario RPG 2 and they teamed with Nintendo again to make a true good sequel with Geno not that paper crap

Chrono Cross was a sequel, but not in the fashion that a sequel should be understood. Basically, they took the entire story from Chrono Trigger and threw it into "this was a parallel universe" kind of scenario. Chrono Cross was a dissapointment through and through, at least for me, they wasted the potential that the Chrono series had.

Well, at the expense of turning this into the typical FFVII debate thread, the story, the characters and the continuity of the whole game pretty much. As well as the gameplay was pretty bland for its time, eventhough people thought it was all amazing for its time because it was in 3D (RPGs like Suikoden and even SNES RPGs like Seiken Densetsu 3 and Tales of Symphonia were more innovative and arguably fun).
Sure, the graphics also need a fix, but that's superficial. Its pretty much everything else about the title that needs fixing. Even the creators have admitted the game was rushed and the story wasn't polished and has major loopholes. As well as the characters weren't as defined as they'd have liked. Part of the reason Nomura has said he made all these sequels/prequels for FFVII is because he was trying to flesh out the characters.
