You completely forgot Super Mario World NinjaV. I think it was even called SMB4 in some regions.

There won't be a sequel this gen. The game is selling too well ironically. Nintendo likes to let a title get all the sales it can rather than cripple the game with a quick sequel. As much as I would love more I just don't see it happening.

I think there most definetily should and will be another classic 2-D Mario game, though I don't share your desire for online mode. Sure it would be a nice touch, but the local multiplayer, and especially the single player should always be the focus of a Mario platformer, and online is not necessary for this time of game. It's like saying there should be online in Oblivion.

I think it will happen this gen, because I don't see their next console doing something that will add much value to SMB. They may as well make a Wii version with it's massive installed base, especially if the next console has backwards compatibility.

Beyond that, I think the Wii has many more years left in it, there's plenty of time to release a sequel without cutting the original too short.

I don't think so. I think we'll see the next 2D Mario as a launch title for the next console, honestly.

That said, I could be wrong. I don't think any of us expected the curveball that was Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I don't think there should be a sequel just yet... Im tired of "sequels" being released every year or 2. Sequels shouldn't be released unless the gameplay can be completely improved over it's predecessor. I don't think there is a need of a sequel until the next console...
