Forums - Sony Discussion - Not very impressed by GT5 demo

Domicinator said:
Well, this has been a good discussion. I think we're all disagreeing on some key things:

a) How big is the "hardcore enthusiast" fanbase?
b) Does Prologue look better than this demo? (So far nobody has given me a link to prove otherwise)
c) Is the demo description misleading? How will casual racing gamers even know this current demo is, for some strange reason, merely a physics demo?

I probably won't be back here tonight, but I'll check my thread tomorrow. I'd love for someone to convince me I should actually care about this game based on my comparison to the other two games. I was getting somewhat pumped up to buy it until I played that time trial. Now I'm definitely not.

a) Its actually not for the hardcore enthusiast, its for a competition to rank first in your country. Surely they didnt want to spend a lot of bandwith for a free challenge

b) Im not going to say if its better than prologue because its not necessary. The footage from TGS 2009 and gamescon, looks awesome compare to the "demo" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxKiMs0vd6Y&feature=rec-LGOUT-real_rn-1r-2-HM    (I chose the first link)

c) Yeah thats true, its misleading, must be the guy at Sony that put the demo on PSN that didnt word it correctly. Should have said GT5 academy build for time trial only, instead of GT5 demo.

*Sigh*

Another one of these threads. As much as people try to tell everyone that the GT Time Trial is not an actual full scale showcase of what GT5 really is going to be, people are still going to try to convince themselves otherwise.

Domicinator, you want proof? Here are some links to the Videos shown at TGS and Jeux Video, and keep in mind that this is even an older build of the game itself, and you can clearly see that the graphics are way above than those showcased on the GT T.T demo

Oh, and also here's proof of how GT5:P even looks superior in the graphical department to the GT Time Trial

Do you need anymore proof? I can continue to post more videos if that pleases you, yet I don't see the point of it, nor do I see the point of people doing these threads over and over again, when this has been discussed to death already.

I've played dozens of demos.

The graphics in the retail release NEVER improve on what the demo looks like. If this did, it would be the first game in history to do so.

I guess you never played the Pro Evo 2010 demo did you?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Nah. Last soccer game I played was FIFA 2005

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Well in that case you shouldn't make such sweeping statements in the future...just my opinion.

The physics are more then just great they are the best I have ever seen/played in my life.

And the graphics are dumbed down a 200mb demo cant hold a lot of hires textures. This game is just to show the physics. God damn sometimes I really wish I could travel in the future so I dont have to wait months to wait for people which realize they were wrong.

this game is missing objects because of limited space this game is missing textures (especially mulitlayer textures) and its missing effects. This game is just to show the handling of GT5. And if you are really into GT5 you should be stunned by the physics because they are just insane. The controller gives you a perfect feedback of the car. The car handling is just extremly realistic there is no comparison to Need for speed shift.

The full game will be a blast its gona be the best GT of all time. Not all games profit from a next generation of technology. But there is not ONE point where GT4 could be better the graphics sound and physics are just another level plus the Bluray gives you a ton of content.

Someone really think GT5 will look actually worse then GT5:P ? This track is just empty there is nothing they could have made the track without sorrounding.

I say it now Gt5 will be the best looking Racing game of all time when it released. Its just obvious that a 200mb demo which has to contain the engine all textures all cars menus sound cant be as good as a 50000 Mb Game.

I am really pissed at PD they should have made a comment that the Graphics dont reflect the full game in any way. So we could skip all this talk. But no they probably thought its the Physics which would matter to the gamer. And those are fantastic.

Why do someone think that a 60 Million Dollar game which run s on the same console as uncharted 2/killzone 2 and is the most important titel for Sony. And showed already extremly good looking videos and already released a good looking prologue. And is 5 years in development when it releases. And the demo of the game needed just 0,5% of the space of the full game. Will have worse graphics then ALL of his competitors and is at the same level graphically then a lauch titel (Motorstorm 1) ?

Is it really that hard to figure out that this demo cant reflect the graphic of the full game ?

Edit: Someone seen the sky ? The sky is not moving the clouds are always at the same place. When was the last time you saw a Skybox this primitive ? There will be rain storm night in GT 5.

I think PD didnt thought that people would really think this is the final graphic because this cant be.

That was a mistake from there part

And it doesn't require you to think just read

its all there in the official page

The demo was specifically designed for this competition to showcase the realism of the brand-new physics engine and to challenge players’ driving skills using professional driving physics and many of the driving assists disabled.

Your just ignoring things I've said previously ain't you. Like the link to the announcement with a whole interview about the Time Trial and not one mention of a demo in the whole thing.

Oh and I've been on the PS store 5 minutes ago. I think your misleading people and not PD because its the same thing. Not 1 mention of a demo and in fact they don't even mention its from GT5. They say on the store description. " To mark the release of GT5 on the PS3" Nothing about a representation of the GT5 game is in the description.

Lol Saviorx is just hating on it for some reason or the other.

Its the PS3 all over again. People are hating on it without giving it a chance and judging it on a demo that represents a very small fraction of the actual game

Yeah, um, A) I love the PS3.  Just because I don't like every exclusive for it doesn't mean I hate the PS3.

B) Whoever said it was "ignorant" to think that the final release will not look better than the demo----It's ignorant, at least in marketing circles, to expect your core audience to just magically know that.  I would venture to say a vast majority of gamers out there are not details kind of people.  When you say something is a demo of a game on Playstation Network or Xbox Live, then users expect a demo.  It doesn't say "GT5 Demo that is only focusing on the physics, not the graphics or the rest of the game".  It just says "Gran Turismo 5 Demo".

If you, like myself, read gaming headlines every day, follow developer blogs, listen to podcasts, and read/listen to interviews about gaming, you are in the minority.  We are a very vocal minority, I will give you that, but I would venture to guess that most gamers do not like to analyze each and every title for its entire develpment cycle before buying it.  They just say, "I am going to shit my pants when _____ comes out," and then they buy it.  If I were one of those people, I would not buy Gran Turismo 5 based on this lame demo.

Sorry fanboys, but it's entirely possible that this game might just be kind of "blah" as far as sales and reviews.  Maybe I'll be proven wrong and it will be a revolution.  If that ends up being the case, I may just buy it.

Another thread like this.

Just one question,

Do you even know what's the purpose of this demo?
