Wait, you're buying DDS 1 and 2, but you don't have Nocturne? Something isn't right here.....

Why haven't you played FF X yet? When you are just playing through the main game, because of the sphere grid, you will need to be chopping and changing most of the time, as until you get to high levels, nobody except Yuna can do white magic. If you are thinking about beating all the extra bosses, then those aren't the best 3, but if you are getting on the boat, one of them might not have been introduced, the best 3 are those who can swim as some of the monsters in the arena require you to be underwater

So what are the best 3? Who has the best magic? |
I will tell you Tidus and Wakka are 2 of the best 3, the last person who joins your party, much later in the game, will join. It is because of their overdrives and their ability to swin underwater. For Wakka, you need to play the greatest mini-game ever (again I don't want to spoil anything) for quite some time to get his best overdrive, which hits 10x, and by the end, that will be 99,999 for each hit.
As for best magic, well Lulu is best for offensive, Yuna is best for defensive. The thing is with the sphere grid, each character has their own track, but once they finish those they can go on someone else's (they are not quite linear) and so if you took Tidus' along Yuna's once he has finished his, you will have a great white mage. By the very end of the game (I don't mean final boss), everyone can be as good as each other at anything, the only difference being the weapons they can equip. Then again, getting to that sort of level requires a lot of work. I only maxed out Tidus's strength after about 30 hours of grinding, but it was so worth it to do 99,999 damage with each hit
Seraphic, I'll be getting a PSP soon enough, will you point out a good 2k for me? I want one that's hackable for homebrew, gotta have SNES and Genesis games on it! Otherwise, there's no way I'm buying.
@Soriku:
Tidus - Yuna - Auron
That's the best you can have 'till you start maxing out everyone - if you go by their defined sphere paths. Yuna has great summons, and the ones after Ixion (and including him) do over 9999 damage with their overdrives. Her overdrive is summoning an Aeon with a full overdrive bar, essentially letting you do two overdrives in a row, which kills any enemy+most bosses. Auron just does huge physical damage and reduces the enemies stats' well with his break skills... making them easy kills. Tidus is just very quick and will give you quite a lot of extra turns, plus, when you learn his Hastega (haste/all), you'll have more than twice the turns... develop him well. (I let him veer off into Auron's spheres for extra strength! )
Feel free to replace Auron with Lulu. She can kill anything and is also very powerful. Pull out Wakka only for flying enemies... like they've shown you @ Besaid. His power throughout the game is so-so, and his overdrives are nothing too good, either.
Her summons are more powerful than all of your characters. See their stats! The stronger Yuna is, the stronger they are!
Don't hold out on Wakka, though. You'll have an underwater boss later in the game... just remember to let him act during random battles.
Soriku said: Btw, people weren't kidding when they said the game was linear. I don't really mind too much though. I never thought exploration and such was the best part of FF anyway. That's reserved more to games like Zelda or DQ. |
Lol, yeah. It's very linear, but who cares? It doesn't make it any less of a terrific game.
Seriously, get TotA. It has the best battle system and cast of any Tales games. The anime's cast is doesn't do justice.
And keep Medieval 2: Total War, one of the best strategies out there.
And like g-value said, Grandia 1/2 are cheap to get and they are amazing. I'd say Lunar as well, but they are expensive.

Theres quite a buncha of good 2000 models listed here for cheap in good condition, but if you want it already homebrewed up, then yes the 2000 series is the best out of the bunch since 3k + Go is not suited for it. while 1k and 2k are able to, however i'd stick with the 2k since its just downright slicker and more "Portable" as they would say.
But if you want it homebrewed to begin with, they cost... a tad extra i think, i'll look up on that.
