Forums - Sony Discussion - Dragon Age: Origins on PS3, How is it?

Hi,

So obviously it's Christmas, and I got some money, and I'm going to be buying some PS3 games tomorrow, and one that I'm on the fence on is Drgon Age: Origins, but for one reason; Performance.

I've seen a side-by-side comparison on LensOfTruth, and it seems pretty terrible, the 360 runs at around 30FPS and drops maybe to 23-24 at the lowest, wnich is when fighting multiple enemies, while the PS3 version is at a steadt 20FPS while running around and talking to people, but it dropped as low as 11FPS while the player was fighting THREE wolves, which seems pretty appauling in my opinion.

Now, I COULD get it for the 360, but to be quite honest, I don't think the graphics live up to the £40 pricetag, they seem sort of on par with some high end PS2 or Wii games, which isn't really good considerng these are the people that made StarWars KoToR and Mass Effect...

Does anyone here have it for the PS3, and if so, do you ever notice the framerate is so low, does it bother you at all, or is it so bad that you wish you didn't buy it ?

Thanks.

That thread is full of gripes and such but hey the game is alright, great story and all but fell short of my expectations. In short get it on pc if you can.

PS3 version has faster load times and framerate from what i understand, i got it for christmas and am about 4 hours in pretty good so far.

it looks noticebly better on the console based on gamespot's comparisons

I had it on PS3 and found nothing wrong with it. I had a ton of fun playing it.

There are some bugs, but since I'm a fan of the genre I let them slip. PC version might be a better investment if you have a good computer. Otherwise if you're thinking of getting it on PS3 get it.

I never noticed a drop in framerate, even with 2 huge aoe spells and a ton of people to kill. The only problem would be low quality textures in some places.

Also, the graphics might be disappointing at first, but they really grew on me. You do control a group with responsive controls, fighting armies of badguys. I think the game play and story make up for the graphics (which I did end up liking a lot anyway).

According to multiple reviewers, PS3 is the best CONSOLE version due to better and more colorful graphics and shorter load times. Frame rate is still a bit lower than on 360 but I've got the game and it didn't bother me at all.

The best overall version of the game is the PC version.

double post

I would tell you but this install is taking ages.

Can't wait to check it out though. I heard it is damn good.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I have noticed a very, very small amount of frame rate drops, although its not off putting for me at all. The game runs smoothly and it looks pretty good as well (its no Uncharted 2 though).

The game is shaping up quite nicely. I'm only 4 hours in, but I can already tell Bio Ware have delivered yet again.

So doesn't the framerate ever jerk or anything ?

I mean, when my brother is playing WoW, his framerate will drop between 10-20 in 25 man raids, and it looks terrible, and if that's how DA:O will be on a PS3, I'm scared to buy it since I don't want to waste my money on an unplayable game.

For the graphics, I think they look nice on the PS3, not amazing, not above average, but nice, y'know, alot better than the 360 I might say, but I've seen the comparison video and heard so much bad stuff about the frame rate.

Would anyone perhaps compare this game to Two Worlds, or Sacred 2 in terms of framerate ?

Because although Sacred 2 was lower than average, I found it to be completely fine, the same with Borderlands too, although that was 26FPS average, and dropped to about 21ish, where the 360 stayed at a constant 30.
