As far as Natal goes, when has an add-on that was released in the middle of a generation ever had a serious impact on hardware sales? Power-glove, Eye-Toy, Sega 32X, Sega CD? It's also funny that you berate Sony for "shameless copying" of Xbox Live and then turn right around hail Natal as the second coming of Christ.

Sigh, how many times must this nonsense be repeated.  NATAL is not an ADDON.  MS considers it a console relaunch.  Also, NATAL isn't copying anything, it is reinventing the UI.

I don't give a damn what Microsoft calls it, it's an add-on. It's the same console with a different control scheme, nothing more, nothing less. Calling it a "console relaunch" is just MS trying to hype it up as something more than it is.

Reinventing the GUI? Please. What are they reinventing here, exactly?

Really, had Nintendo released the Wii-mote for the Gamecube in 2004 and called it a console relaunch, would it have made any kind of a damn difference?

You do realize that Nintendo did exactly what you state right?

What's really going to upset him is when Natal launches, and the vast majority of it's games are casual games to try and bring in that market.  Which is laughable considering the Wii has already conquered that demographic.  And those people are definiely not paying ~$300 just for another system and camera to play even more casual games than what they already have.  That's why I prefer Sony Wands.  At least there is a chance to play both casual and hardcore games, without destroying the gimmick of "play without a controller."

In the end, however, both ADD-ONS are only going to sell to those who have already bought the system, bringing in little to no new gamers that wouldn't have bought the system anyway.  The PS3 is doing so well now because it is at an affordable price and it has so much to offer, and not just in games.  And don't forget Blu-ray, which continues to bring in more and more people as time goes by.

I really don't see 360 making up too much ground, nor do I see it's sales being horrible.  I also see PS3 sales probably stabilizing after the holiday seasons to slightly above the 360's.  Now MS might try to offset them with a price cut, but how much they could drop it and how much damage that would do is yet to be seen.  If they did drop it, I see Sony probably reacting with a $50 price drop ~mid-late 2010, which is probably all it would take to disrupt any price cut MS would do.

Oh, and if I were to stoop down to your level then I could mention that a significant % of 360's sold are due to the thing breaking down and the owner rebuying. I know of many such cases.

Future Shop here in Canada has a boxing day special $179 for 360Pro. Yes Pro, the ones they don't make anymore. How? refurbed units! They are claiming 10,000 units canada wide...

Trying to convince me the Wii is a real adult game machine 'if you play it right' is like trying to convince me Tofu tastes great 'if you just cook it right'

I think ps3 may get another 1M week.. boxing day is having a huge ps3 deal, I think 4 GAMES with a 120gb PS3 for just $299?

But the difference is that the older 360's can play natal too. Gamecubes are less powerful than the wii and cant play wii games.

To be honest I don't really care about the gap now. 2009 was a win for me with the PS3 because of the games that I got to play. Sales didn't help me enjoy them anymore

uh oh....

I posted this in another thread regarding Natal, Sony's Wand, and the diminished sales gap between the PS3 and 360:

Wand and NATAL are gonna fail. #1 It's too late to try and implement that kind of stuff into the systems. Either you integrate it to all PS3 and 360 games (thus alienating people who don't want to play with motion controls) or split up how games are developed...and just piss off developers who have to make a regular version and a motion control version

#2 M$ and Sony are doing this only because the Wii is popular. But the people who buy Wiis are not the same people who buy 360s and PS3s. The people who buy Wiis want to play Wii Fit, Wii Music, Game Party, etc..for the most part (as evidenced by not only the sales of casual games, but the sheer amount that are on the Wii). They don't want FPSs and over the top action adventure games. Meaning if Sony and M$ want to capture that audience...well they're going to really piss of the "traditional gamer", which is the typical demographic that buys there systems

With that all being said...people need to stop saying that NATAL may be a game changer. Conversely, people who retort "you forgot about the Wand/GEM"....stop doing that as well. Unless you think people are going to spend $300 on a 360 or PS3, then spend however much it costs to get the damned peripheral.....THEN buy a game. Yea....I don't think the casual market pie that Sony and M$ want a piece will be too accepting of that

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It's exactly like how Lord N said...since when has introducing a new peripheral mid-console life EVER significantly changed the picture for the respective console? As far as "M$ wants this to be a console relaunch"....that would make me believe that all their games would thne focus on Natal....and not everyone wants motion controls. Then what? That would have an adverse affect on 360 sales.

Thread should be closed as the gap isn't 5 million and as it states in the title NOW, its been started too early.
