I would give Platformer to 'Splosion Man. That might change ina few days time though
Glad MW2 didn't get the shooter part. VERY overrated game.
Overall, PS3 domination... |
Well there is something a little more overrated than it in the category haha.
As for the platformer, I never played Splosion Man so couldn't say. Haven't played much of Crack in Time either, but I just have issues with Ratchet and Clank being called a platformer to begin with but that is for another time. Still a good series and I see why so many people like it.

I have the feeling you are refering to Killzone 2. If you are, i think you are wrong.
KZ2 was hyped up by fans on forums around the net... And gained a metascore of 91. Which IMO it deserves... It has great gameplay and excellent presentation along with a pretty decent online.
Modern Warfare 2 was hyped up by the entire planet. Gained a metascore of 94, which in no way shape or form did it deserve. It had a really short and plotless campaign... And a very, very broken Multiplayer.
I personally think L4D2 should have got the Shooter award, very underrated game... But hey, not for me to decide

Well if you know I'm suggesting it then you know there's a reason haha. Don't worry I don't think it was the most overhyped game ever... I'll leave that to Gears of War. But I still do think it is one of the most overrated ones. Really, as I said about platformers, when it comes down to genre specific awards you have to put the most consideration into how good the main mechanics are for that genre. And when you compare Killzone 2 to the rest, it doesn't stack up.
I don't think Modern Warfare 2 should have got it either, though I do think that one should have been nominated. My choice has been Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. That game along with the Butcher's Bay remake was the best shooter of the year and unfortunately because it sold poorly, released way earlier in the year, and no one talked or hyped it... it never stood a chance. But I don't think MW2 should have got it (enjoyable single player but still forgettable and multiplayer that pisses me off more than I enjoy it) and I don't think Killzone 2 should have got it. Also wouldn't agree that Left 4 Dead 2 should get it and I probably wouldn't have had that nominated either. Would have much rather replaced that with Red Faction: Guerrila, another underrated and forgotten game of 2009.

Force of habit... It's been called overrated since it released
I have to disagree there. It had a mechanic that no other (AFAIK) FPS game had this year, a cover system. And the controls, while... Clunky. Felt real. But i can see why you would think it wasn't as good as others mentioned.
Never played either of them, although my friend on Live was playing Dark Athena a few weeks back and he said it was really good... Im gonna have to pick it up sometime. I got the Demo for RF:G, and it just didnt feel right for me. I want my RF to be FPS

Well for me Killzone 2 is something I would have to let grow on me and when I played it I didn't have a PS3 and limited time to use it (bro's system). So my impressions are based off 4-5 hours of play so not a completely fair judgment but still long enough to know if it is an amazing game or simply a great one haha. But I'll eventually boot it up on my PS3 for the first time and give it a complete run through and see if that changes. Don't think it'll turn out like Gears of War though which really is one of the few games ever released in the past 5 years that I can't understand why it has a metacritic score of over 90 haha. My most overrated and definitely overhyped game ever.
But yea the Chronicles of Riddick series is just fantastic. It really innovated what a FPS could be as it mixed in different kinds of genres in the first person mode. Assault on Dark Athena just continued that. Different kind of shooter (not run and gun like Modern Warfare) but better because of that aspect. Game is below 20 dollars America so should be cheap in the bargain bins as well in the UK if you ever want to pick it up. 2 games in it btw.
Red Faction: Guerrila is definitely different for long time fans of the series (such as me) but once you get into it you'll learn to respect what they did with it. Really it felt like playing an open world Half Life game as it mixed in puzzles, adventure, and strategy into the shooting parts of it. Was really fun to play and very underrated and under hyped. People should have picked that game up over Prototype haha.
