Forums - PC Discussion - Which laptop should I get?

None of those. Wait until January 7th for some Arrandale laptops (dual-core but same as i7 and 32nm). The i7 quad laptops will have huge power consumption which will make it last 1-2 hours from full charge when you're playing games. The Arrandale ones are 32nm and will have much lower power consumption.  For what you are doing, including gaming, you do not need a fast quad-core and a fast dual with HT and high clocks will suffice [Actually the duals will be at 2.4-2.66GHz whereas your quad is only 1.6GHz].

The GT 240 is poor at games, I would get something faster. It's equivalent to about 10% below a desktop GT 220, which at 1366x768 won't have playable framerates in most games.

Look here for the GT 220, find the games you want, estimate the performance at a resolution of 1366x768 from the ones they have and subtract 10% from the FPS. Are they still playable?

If you gonna have it for all five years long, you'd better look for quality and reliability rather than performance. From this perspective, a HP is far from the best choice, seriously.

Both of the ones he linked are from HP.

I've actually had pretty good luck with HP laptops. The desktops have been horror stories from people I know, but the laptops seem to be fine.

My suggestion is to focus on the graphics hardware. AMD direct X 11 is something you'll really notice within a couple of years.

First one is specced like my computer (plus a BD drive). I'm happy with it, so that'd be a good choice.

Second comp is much better, though.

icore7 is the way to go and arrandale is defntly what you shd wait for. For gaming I'd always go with ATI.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

Don't ever get a HP laptop, they have been nothing but nightmares. They overheat and cost a buttload to repair. I would go with what Soleron said.
