Final Fantasy XIII = ~100 million dollars for Square Enix.
Dragon Quest IX = ~80 million dollar for Square Enix.

I can bet with you that Final Fantasy XIII will give more money to Square Enix that Dragon Quest IX (in profit)... especially with the sponsor of Microsoft in development.

I am glad someone posted up the proper attach rates, this confirms that FF XIII will exceed FFX but not FF7 in sales (on PS3). I highly doubt the xbox 360 will make much of a contribution, I still think it won't break 1 million, showing S-E where the real money is to be made

DQIX official launch price = 5980 yen (66.04$)

FFXIII official launch price = 9200 yen (101.6$)

DQIX: 2,338,211 x 66.04 = 154.42milj$

FFXIII: 1,516,532 x 101.6 = 154.08milj$

So yes revenue is pretty close but DQIX cost a lot less develop than FFXIII so by profits DQIX made more. Good numbers for FFXIII but DQIX surely made more profits for S-E.

DQIX debuted at 5980 yen, FFXIII at 8800 (edit: may have this wrong, 9200 given above). Multiply this by their launches (in units), and FFXIII comes up short.

As for profit, we simply don't know. FFXIII's development costs were far higher than DQIX's, and Nintendo is going to be advertising DQIX in the west.

Worldwide it may, but we are speaking of Japan. And in Japan FF XII will not give more profit to SE than DQ IX, especially since going with your figures DQ IX will almost double his first week (= double revenue) while FF XIII will cry to reach 2.1-2.2 millions .

Even if the revenue would be the double for FF XIII, the expenses for SE to make the game are well over the ones of DQ IX, which are under 10 millions for sure.

Worldwide FFXIII has a good shot of giving more profits to SE because it will end several millions over DQ IX and has a huge sponsor as you say, but it all depends on the costs to make the game (some time ago there was a rumor of over 60 millions).
