Forums - Nintendo - Your thoughts on Silent Hill: Shattered Memories?

Making this thread just to type out my thoughts feel free to contribute/discuss or let die.

I started playing the game yesterday and think Im almost half way in since its suppose to be a short game. Its been pretty damn fun. The game is presented so damn well I love the atmosphere and the world Climax was able to make. Theres tons of cool little details everywhere that make Silent Hill seem like a real city which makes it even creepier thats its deserted. I love using the flashlight in the game its implented so damn well that after playing it you will demand all flashlight controls on Wii be of the same quality.
(Which sadly isnt the case with Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruin of the Moon upcoming flashlight survival/exploration game. Anyone who has played it knows this is not an RPG in the traditional sense so I refuse to call it one)

Anyways this is my first Silent Hill and I was expecting more of an old school Resident Evil feel but this (like Fragile) feels like an exploration game. As long as youre not in the nightmare world all you do is explore the city around you and while its not always scary the atmosphere really draws you in and keeps you focused and kinda paranoid. The cellphone is really neat and exploring doesnt get old since theres a good amount of different individual stories of other people you find and other little interesting bits thrown here and there.

My biggest gripe with the game which should've been a highlight is the nightmare world. Its been said before but if theres no ice theres no REAL reason to be afraid. The music the camera angle of running and bursting through the doors its all solid but it just not that scary and the lack of direction here is its biggest fault. Sometimes youre just running around aimlessly or in circles trying to accidently go through the right door/path which gets pretty tiresome after a bit. Still its a fun game and while I dont think it would be a worth a full $50 purchase (like most games) it definitly a game worth owning/playing.

completely agree with the bolded, i give it 2 months, it will drop like a rock

funny how somehow big daddy's could cause "fear" in bioshock when the whole game was a joke in terms of difficulty and you could always just respawn at the nearest vitachamber, yet silent hill it is a big flaw that only during the ice world sequences there is danger
however the game isn't about scares it is about the psychology, so far I've played through the whole game 3 times, just to see the differences
frankly the game was worth the 50 dollars more than any other game this year besides super mario bros wii and killzone 2 and that includes are certain over rated tomb raider clone with a laughably predictable story

I respect both of your opinions, but I can`t say I agree, personally.  I find the game incredible in every respect, and well worth the $50.

But you`ll have to wait for my review, which will be up soon, for my full thoughts

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Agreed. Dont know how the word psychology completley left me when typing this up.

If you feel like you got your moneys worth thats fine I just think some people will not. I think Madworld for example was overpriced at $50 but Id pay $50 for Sky Crawlers which is coming to NA for budget $30.

I have to buy this game after I beat Silent Hill: Homecoming. I don't care what anybody says -the game looks like a must have!
