its the best game I have EVER played to date

I found both Uncharteds to be better than MGS4 actually.  MGS4 I can see getting its following, particularly among people who are desperate for a game that feels like a movie.

And yes, people generally don't discuss how the gameplay is in MGS4 when they rave about it.  MSG4 has good controls (not great, but good), but they are also on the stiff side.  I found Uncharted, for example, to control better.  This goes for running, and also jumping and shooting.  Also, the storytelling is in there, but not monsterously long cut scenes.

I have this feeling that there is a need to hype up MGS4 more than it is, because it is a PS3 exclusive, and is raised as ammo in a system war between fanboys.

No, the game generally deserves the praise it gets. There isn't a game on any platform that was executed the way it was, no not on PS2 or PS1 either.

However, I'll agree that it being PS3 only helped it's hype. But then again, so what?

Praise as "Best game ever"?  If the discussion were limited to being "one of the best games this generation" or said to be a AAA title, I wouldn't being jumping into this.  But people, for the fact that MGS4 goes overboard in trying to be like a movie, end up saying "Best game eva".  That, at it is currently the most notable PS3 exclusive.

My take on the execution is as follows:

1. The controls weren't great.

2. The cut scenes were OBSCENELY long.  One spent nearly as long watching as they did playing.  Throw in also enduring long installs of game content to the hard drive.

3. For something spent being watched, it wouldn't even stand up to the best of film making.

4. The storyline was confusing and hard to follow, unless you were a fan of the series, and knew the backstory.  I could also go on, if you wanted a critical analysis of the MGS4 storyline, like one does movie, and go into detail on how absurd the war economy concept was.  And other things, like consciousness of one entity taking over another person via the grafting of an arm to the other person.  MGS4 has a bunch of these absurdities.  If you want to limited it to being judged as a game, then one can look away, but people here have said that MGS4 was even better than the best movies every made.  They hype meter is off the hook in regards to this.

I do contrast this to Uncharted, which also pushed for the movie-like experience, but worked better as a movie, particularly Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Perhaps an "IMO" would have helped. Yes, I do think it is the greatest game ever made. For me, there was no game with a better emotional grip, graphics, game play, and sound blended as well as in this game. Also, if the story was confusing, I wouldn't have suggested you start on the fourth installment. You're entitled to your opinion, but I don't see why Uncharted has to keep entering this thread. The thread is about MGS4, not Uncharted or anything else.

The game is discussion MGS4, and how people are going off and saying it is the "best game ever", and people saying it is even better than the "best movie ever".  When that happens, individuals who disagree with the opinion will speak up, as I do.  And I bring up Uncharted, because it is also going for the "feels like a movie" experience.  I just happen to believe it did a better job being a game.  And this thread wasn't labelled a "lovefest of MSG4.  If you are critical, stay out".  It was discussing MGS4, which I had.  The way I did was by listing what I considered to be superior AS A GAME.

As far as IMO, one can say my assessment of the game, and where it stands, is my opinion.  Most other things are either true or not.  Things like: How well the game controls, the length of the cut scenes and needed time to install, and how easy the storyline is to follow.  These things are more objective.

That is appearing to be the rule at this point.  Only those who claim that MGS4 is one of the best games EVA need to post in here, and criticisms of it are not welcome.  Don't even bring up other games either.

Well as long as you stop trolling with sentences like "I fell asleep multiple times in front of this game", you're allowed to say what you want.

I know that you are all going to hate me for this but I personally didn't like it.

Indeed.

Not even bringing other game series in to the mix...compared to MGS franchis itself. There is no way people would claim MGS4 is the best game eva if they played MGS1,2,3 in that order. If all you played is MGS4 and then you went back to play MGS1...which is 10 years old...then yeah, I could see people going ga-ga over MGS4.

For the rest of us that have played them in order...MGS4 was just a repetition of old gameplay, with unnecessary long cinematics and an emo story that is written for Twilight part 3.

@disolitude: the story is not 'emo' at all but hey, that's your opinion, presented in a trollish way.

As you can see, most people here disagree with you strongly though, and so does metacritic.

I think your memory made older games a bit too great. We all have a natural tendency to see older things better than they were.

Nope, nothing wrong with not liking it. However, there's a difference between your post and other posts.

I realize that and thats why i just said i didn't like it unlike others who you have pointed out.
