Forums - Microsoft - Final Fantasy XIII 360 Losing 15GB

I think the 360 version will probably have more compressed audio and video but that's about it. Also Blu Ray reads slower than DVD so duplicate files are used to combat this (as is mandatory installs).

This rumour about FF being purposely made worse so as to keep it parity between the systems is pure SDF type propaganda. Why on earth would they do that? Who has done that? There will always be small differences between the systems, they are different architectures and in multiplat face offs the 360 usually wins so if anything it should be the other way around.

About Bayonetta download file size disparity between PS3 and 360, well PS3 version is longer in some ways (to make up for the lack of the clock tower section).

What I want to know is how come the 360 allows one to download updates and games without having to install them? Does it install as it downloads? Why doesn't the PS3 do this? It's a right pain having to install after downloading.

That is only the case when devs port over to PS3 to avoid extra optimization. Uncharted 2 proves this wrong. FFXIII is said to have no loading times except between city and field, and that it has no install.

I imagine a good part of that is audio and those people looking at the disc don't know if they duplicated information on the disc similar to Oblivion.

But I guess reason shouldn't let the internt making wild accusations and assuming wild data they know about is right and means something.

Well, not losing TOO much, at least not with the video. This of course is assuming their compression is as lossless as possible.

M$ compression agent is considered one of the best in the world for the 360. Many people saying it barely compromises at all. Obviously it does compromise, but it will not be noticeable with the eyes or ears. Those who do notice will be noticeing it through PC software capturing and stop and go frameing.

Ps3 Game is better, because the ps3 version has 1 Blu Ray and Dolby Digital System.

Then i will buy the game for PlayStation 3!

If you had said anything different, I would have pooped myself.

But to some collectors and people different artwork across different discs is better. And no disc swapping on 360 if you install on HDD. As for Dolby Digital, yo do realise 360 has Dolby Digital 5.1. But yes SOME PS3 games have 7.1. But with my setup 5.1 will sound better than the majority of users cheap 7.1 systems.

You sure Uncharted 2 has no duplicate files on that 25GB disk? What's it filled with then? In any case, I think Badassbab is right. And that "compromise" is blown way outta proportion. Sure, no Japanese audio. But what's the big deal about environments? What's the problem if you can only do some sidequests later instead of the beginning of the game? Or, only at the beginning and not at the end? Sure, it limits your freedom, but at the same time it allows the developers to control the environment more and improve the pacing of the game a lot... It just depends on how you look at it, and in the end, it's still gonna be a great game. It's the work of developers to give the best experience, regardless of the limits. That's all it's about, working around the limits of the consoles.. And the only real limit the X360 has is the disk space compared to the PS3.. Doesn't seem like a big problem to me...

Edit: And that article is pure fanboyism..

Well, let me put it this way: If Uncharted 2 and FFXIII have no install OR loading times, and then we compare to those games that were known for copying data and mandatory installs, something is wrong. I'm not a game developer to know, but still...

As for the whole compromise, trust me, I know it's not a big deal, but to say it's SDF propaganda? It does hold some water, you know...even if it won't be a big deal in the end.

Wasn't my intention to flamebait with that article, though I understand what you're saying and I agree. I just wanted to highlight the fact that GT had a talk with Kitase on the issue.
