Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Japan: Strong Xbox360 sales after price cut

According to gamefront.de Microsoft´s Xbox 360 sells much better in Japan after it´s price was cut to Yen 34,800 (Euro 213 / USD 305) for the Value Pack and Yen 27,800 (Euro 170 / USD 243) for the Core.

"Asobit City", a japanese retailer reports the Xbox 360 sells much better after the price cut now. According to gamefront the retailer even sold out of Elite systems and saw great sales of Ace Combat 6 over the week.

What this means for next weeks hardware numbers is still up in the air but expect 360 sales to be up significantly if this retailer is any indication.

Could the 360 do more than 15k this week? Maybe even more than 20k, perhaps beating the PS3?

Since the Halo 3 launch they have been selling better but not good. They were averaging 1,500 forever and after the Halo 3/Katamari/Ace Combat launch they were at 3000+ area. I expect to see this continue with the launch of Lost Odyssey in a few weeks.Overall MS in Japan is getting dumped on, but at least sales are improving.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Beating the PS3 could be a hard thing but based on the price cut and the very strong sales of Ace Combat 6 it should be possible for Microsoft to break the 10k barrier this week.

I think 10k is almost a given considering all that happened for the 360 this week in Japan... we'll soon find out!

I think 10k is do-able this week.

However, I think they are confusing "strong sales because of pricecut" with "strong sales because of AC6 and Platinum hits releases"

AC6, knowing other exclusive Japanese games for the X360 has problably moved 6,000-7,000 units or so (give or take).

Add in the 2,000-3,000 units that it sold last week as a base, and we get 8,000-10,000 for the week.

So anything more than this would show that the price cut did indeed have an effect outside of "typical X360 buying patterns".

However, having said this, if it's above 7,000, thats very good. The only major release on the X360 at this time last year was DOAX2, which moved around 7,000 hardware units. It did that # in about 1-2 weeks, around the time SM5 releases in Japan.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

well it better this week
