Forums - Gaming Discussion - Final Fantasy XIII as Linear as a Piece of String

FF X was extremely linear and people seem to love that game so I wouldn't imagine 13 being linear would mean much to most!

But not when the map is a string. also FFX was years ago and some improvement is needed.

WOW....I just looked at the map system in the link, why even have a map when its that linear? u cant get lost....this wat happens when ur story is to grandiose for its own good...same thing happened in Xenogears

I don't understand how you can have a complaint about a game and then compare it to the greatest RPG ever?  It just doesn't make sense.

OT: I think we need to wait for the game to be out more than 1 day before we come to our final conclusion.

uuuhhhhh simple..there both linear!?

Really, I never noticed, I was too busy getting my ass kicked by the greatest RPG story ever.  I guess you didn't understand it, you might need to play it again.  And last I checked, there was quite a lot I could do in Xenogears before going back the the main story.  I don't call that linear, but that depends on your own personal definition of "quite a lot" and "linear".

And how are they both linear?  FFXIII hasn't even been out for more than a day.  Let's wait until someone finishes the game before we come to a conclusion.

are you brain dead?...I am taking about XENOGEARS being a completely linear game, this is the second time you veered off any onto a different topic, XENOGEARS had like 3 sidequest( which was accessed at last part of the game) it was point A to point B the whole entire game, which was worsened on the second disk, maybe you need to play it again... im not knocking XENOGEARS at all,I agree awesome story, it was just very Linear due to its engrossing grandiose story

Oh, I didn't realize we were at the point of insults yet, how brain dead of me...

The story is not too big for it's own good.  And it is not linear by my definition (already stated this).  I've played and finished the game more times than I could count on a couple sets of hands.  I know the twists and turns, the ins and outs,  it's the perfect fit for a perfect game.  If you think it's too "grand" then maybe you missed something, or maybe we just don't see eye to eye (duh on that one).

I don't think I've veered anywhere (not going to point my finger) other than from my chair to the bathroom tonight.  In each reply I took the time to address the topic at hand, Final Fantasy XIII.

A game like FFXIII, which I hope will be as amazing as I want it to be when I finally get my hands on it, will not bother me if a few hours are linear.  And I will wait to pass my own personal judgement on the game, until I get it and have owned it for more than 24 hours.

you still dont get wat im saying... im not in literally saying the story is too much, more that its sooo deep that it affects the pacing of the game.. the game was constantly pushing you forward, 2nd disk forced you to go forward. All im saying is FFXIII might be following this grandiose storyline where ithe pacing constantly moves you forward intill u get to the story break point... which im not a fan of, I didnt like it XENOGEARS, I didnt like it in FFX, and im not gonna like it in FFXIII.... and my apologies about the brain dead ur little snide comment about me not understanding XENOGEARS iwas wrong and really had nothing to do with my cllaim, ive played it a good deal myself

You do realize he's saying that the game, in design, is extremely linear but the story was great. That's the same issue with Final Fantasy XIII. THe first half of the game is linear in design, but the story seems great.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Sananku Complex is shit. People should stop taking trolls seriously.

This. Sankaku does nothing but troll in their articles.

Also, the famitsu review mentioned that the first half of the game was very linear, but it's not in the latter half.

Yes, yes. Sankaku isn't the most reliable source for anything (some good porn once in a while, but its not like that can't be had elsewhere)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I'm pumped.  I'll take a well planned linear story anyday.  I'm sick of these "open world" games that are nothing but a bore fest and replace good stories with the excuse they want you to be able to explore and adventure wherever you want.  **I'm looking at you Oblivion**
