Well...I can sorta understand NSMB vs Ratchet and Clank because on Gamespot they got the same official review score 8.5, they got the same critics average score, but R&C got 9.1 from members and NSMB got a 9.0 so it would seem R&C just sneaks in ahead of NSMB. However MW2 got a 9.0/9.3/9.0 on so it is rather odd that MW2 is out and R&C is in. Perhaps the GOTY weighting is on user score primarily. Or perhaps it's gopt nothing to do with review scores at all.
Really good to see Demon's Souls there. Good to see FM3 there.
Funny how they are showing the Dragon Age 360 boxart when it's the lowest reviewed version.
The reason no Wii Games are in the GOTY list: No Wii games got good enough reviews on Gamespot, other than 2 multiplats (Beatles Rockband and Tiger woods golf), which for one or other reason the Editors found fit to leave out of the overall category, but include in the platform list. Aside from the NSMB vs. Ratchet and Clank issue the lack of Wii games in the overall GOTY seems to be reasonably justified.
I like the look of the Gamespot PS3 list better than the IGN PS3 list, adding 2 acclaimed RPGs gives it a bit more diversity. The lack of R&C in this list does beg the question of how it turned up on the overall GOTY list.
360 list is less diverse than IGN's but still a quality list.
Platformer: Really pleased to see Trine in the list. It would be weird for NSMB to win this platform award up against R&C given the overall GOTY nominations. If that happens I'd have to say NSMB was hard done by for GOTY consideration.
RPG: has got to be either Dragon Age 1st and Deamon's souls 2nd or other way round given they are both up for overall GOTY. Other 3 nominations are all DS games!?! seems a bit of another slap for Wii.
Shooter: Again this has to be KZ2, it's the only shooter in the overall GOTY list so it's got to win its genre category.
Action Adventure: This is the list to watch because there are 3 GOTY nominations in there; most money should be on Uncharted.
That's about all I care about on the GOTYs.
Wii list is quite different to IGN but still very well rounded.
