Because there is an absolute dearth of Sony fan and media support on the web?

Come on. Sony is doing great since the Slim release, are people really so touchy that if it isn't screamed from the mountains at every possible moment, then something must be wrong?

For the record, I've read no articles anywhere that have suggested that the US = the world or that the 360 is beating the PS3 in worldwide sales anywhere. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places?

There are plenty of articles with the title "360 outsells PS3 in November". Which is clearly not the case.

Software is even worse. Pachter complained about "Uncharted 2 only selling 650k in the US", while ignoring the 1.5 million sales it's gotten in the rest of the world. But then the rest of the world is just full of commies and dragons.

OT: Although i knew this already, confirmation for the doubters is always a good thing I suppose.

COMMIES  are a real danger my friend, they are alive and kicking more than ever. They formed a new alliance with middle east extremists

So Pacther wants better sales in America for a fantastic game, and that is bad?  Or NPD makes statements about NPD sales (only covering America) and somehow that means we think America = the world?

If we're joking about world maps, I prefer this one: http://pw0nd.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/america-500x344.jpg

If you're serious...well I won't go there.

NPD tracks US sales, and very few people seem to realise that there are game sales outside of the USA. If a game sells 500k in America, and 4 million in Europe and 2 million in Japan, is that game a failure for only selling 500k in America?

Even worse is what GameSpot did once, and just said "Uncharted [DF] sold 500,000 units, very disappointing, blah blah blah PS3 sucks", and I have no idea where they got that from, because it sold more than that in the US alone. They were probably using old NPD numbers, and made no mention of the fact that they were US only.

If they team up with the dragons, we're doomed.

I'm not arguing that there aren't stupid people in the world (many I'm sure in America).  But by grossly generalizing that all of America thinks it is the world, you have done what you claim to be vexed about in the first place.

Hey I'm down with PS3 doing great and Uncharted being a great game (it's sales will go up by +1 as soon as I can find the time to finish the first!); I just think this article was over-reactionary.

That is a great map, and it is very true of a lot of us "ugly Americans".

OT: Should I take this "article" seriously, or were they joking? I don't go to any of the console fansites, so I maybe am not getting the humor. If it is serious, well, I'm sorry that the PS3 didn't get enough accolades for you. Maybe the author should come to VGChartz and read one of the "PS3 sets a new record! Most sales in October 2009 by a Playstation system!" or one of the hard hitting expose type threads like "Will the PS3 close the gap by Thursday or. . . Friday!?!" or one of the many variants thereof I've seen over the last few months.

Seriously, not enough internet hype for the PS3? Seriously?!?!

Ahh, glad people understand Worldwide > U.S.

Microsoft treats the U.S as the World too much.

You know Microsoft only responding to NPD, I don't remember them ever treating US as the world.

in NPD reponses they clearly state.

we win NPD therefore we will beat sony gen, in worldwide sales.

@LOL at the map.

one of the turist i meet told me i speak mexican.

i couldn't hold it and laugh at him xD

The funniest part about this map, to an American, is that a significant part of the rest of the world believes it has some merit.  Anyone who has ever actually lived in America would realize that, outside of the most ridiculous of rural locations, the average US citizen is the US government's own biggest critic.

Don't mistake the actions of the powerful and rich as indicators for the personality, or intellect, of a nation of people.  I find your map deeply ironic, considering how certain powerful governments like to condemn entire nations, based largely upon their leadership, to the rest of the world.

Don't stoop to that kind of behavior, Kantor -- you're brighter than that.

Not all of America.

Just the majority.

Just being Devil's Advocate, while Patcher, MS themselves and many sites focused only on US in their comments, in most cases they were referring to NPD numbers (which are US only) or US market.

I agree it would be useful, and perhaps more appropriate for US centric sites and analysts to give at least a summary of the bigger picture - for example Patcher really should have made it clear Uncharted 2 WW sales are fine, it's the US sales that seem lacking.

MS though must love the focus as it can only favour them, given their position in US, as it does tend to cast a more negative than true light on PS3 sales and titles.

Still, I guess the shoe's on the other foot when we stuff about Japan or Others, MS is either struggling badly or only just keeping ahead of Sony, so maybe it all balances out in the end.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
