Somehow I hate 3-D I got a frikkin headache the first time I saw one and even the thought of watching another makes me wanna throw up. I think HD is fine as it is, people need to calm down.

That sounds like old 3D. The original 3D setups, including the original IMAX cinemas used a very low framerate on each eye, which also gave me headaches or put me asleep. The new stuff currently being used, and which is more comparable to this stuff, should give you a much higher framerate, and at leats for me I have had no problem at the cinema when seeing these movies.

Technology is luckily moving forward and improving :)

SONY's hoping people will buy new TVs for this =P

They might... but IMO much slower than they bought HDTVs.

@ocnkng that's exactly why these new 3D TVs use 120 Hz, it gives 60 Hz for each eye which should avoid any headaches.

I thought at the last invetor's meeting, SONY said their future relied heavily on 3D technology. i.e. 3D in Bravia's, 3D PS3s, the investment into developing 3D cameras with James Cameron

I agree that it'll be a while before it becomes mainstream.

Like anything Sony you will have to buy extras for $1000 before benefiting. I'll give this a pass too. SONY EVER HEARD OF THE RECESSION??

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

Cool. Will have to get a compatible Blu-ray player now.

I just don't see this taking off any time soon. I mean last I checked ~30% of people had an HDTV, so 3-D ready is on such a small portion it won't hit the mass market appeal in at least two years.

@KingFate: well considering the size of the TV market then even a 5%-10% market penetration would be huge. And 3D is a much easier concept to sell to people than just 'higher resolution'. So for Sony and other TV makers they don't need 50%+ of the market to adopt this for it to have a great value to them, they can start by selling it to the high end part of the market and use the technology leader image to help sell non-3d tvs to the lower income segment of the market.

Actually HDTVs were not just about higher resolution. It was that plus being flat, light, big and aesthetically looking much better than any CRT.

I'd wager that most HDTV owners don't even know what HD is. Most people probably bought it for the big screens.

MY ZELDA COLLECTION

HDTV's hardly took of with a bang straight away.
As long as this keeps making inroads and starts to show profits then there's no reason to not keep plugging away with it.
Sure a lot have people have decided it's crap and wont work and they don't want it but there's also a lot that do want this.
All thses 3d films that have been made or being made can finally be released for sale and shown as they were meant to be. The studios need to get behind this now as they already have the content and can make some more cash of their films.
Now I finally have a reason to by a Blu-Ray player just have to wait to know which one's are compatible.
