Forums - Sales - Pachter talks GTA: CW low sales, future of Tony Hawk, Call of Duty and more

@baz
all i am saying is that the game is a ds game, whether its on the psp, or any other handheld, it is a ds game running on the psp
almost the same as psp running ds games through the emulator
what patcher said kind of makes sense because sadly, i can"t remember a high selling ds game that's rated M. i'd be glad to know im mis-informed

but all in all i respect ur post dude, i appreciate the lengthy reply, thanks for putting so much effort into your response, and i read each bit of it

M-rated =/= "Mature"

Brain-Age is more mature than GTA. And it sells better.

Are you saying that most DS owners are under 17 years old?

On Chinatown Wars sales - I don't think that Chinatown Wars failed because of poor marketing. I think that an M-rated game will have difficulty selling on the DS, since the majority of DS owners are under 17 and can't buy it.

If they are fixated on creating a peripheral bundle, they have to price more reasonably, and make sure that the game and peripheral work well enough to satisfy the gaming press.

Tony Hawk Ride's low sales have something to do with it being highly priced?

This man is brilliant and I would've never figured that out.

I don't get what all this M-rated game sales fuss is about? M-rated game sales as relevant as, say, sales of games with pink-colored booklets.

If you do remember, one of the games that gave birth to ESRB was Mortal Kombat. So what? After the game had been rated M it somehow magically became aimed exclusively towards 17+? Really? Those guys on the poster are older than they look then =)

@falcon
naw dude, it got some gamers that are adults and they don't buy games that are rated M
but i can tell that a large amount of ds owners are youths because i see a kid with a ds atleast almost once a week in the train or bus

Cool beans.

I think you might be right about M rated games. I don't think there are many. There's plenty of 'core' games, but not many M. Perhaps someone else might know.

Yes.

activision is driving itself into the ground by milking franchises to death, the first example is the Tony Hawk franchise, currently it's the guitar hero franchise and if history repeats itself the COD series will be heading down this path

no idea how to make this properly work
